6 Days in Scottsdale/Phoenix - choice for 36 holes on last day

I am from New Zealand and we have a group of 6 guys coming to Phoenix/Scottsdale for 6 days the last week of April. I did a post in May last year and got some great input and was hoping for some more!

 

We are all on low single figure handicaps and we have decided to play 36 holes for all 6 days that we are in Scottsdale - but we have a problem on the last day.

 

The courses we have booked for the first 5 days days are:

 

TPC of Scottsdale Stadium

TPC of Scottsdale Champions

Troon North Golf Club Monument

Troon North Golf Club Pinnacle

Grayhawk Golf Club Raptor

Grayhawk Golf Club Talon

We Ko Pa Golf Club Cholla

We Ko Pa Golf Club Saguaro

SunRidge Canyon Golf Club

Golf Club at Eagle Mountain

 

We were booked to play Wildfire on the last day but they have bumped us off the Palmer course for a tournament.

 

So we are looking for ideas for 36 holes on the last day:

- Wildfire Faldo x 2 replay = 36 holes

- Golf Club of Estrella and Raven at Verrado on the same day = 36 holes

- Superstition Mountain x 2 replay = 36 holes

 

What do you think of these choices - or any suggestions for other courses for 36 holes on the same day?

Of the ones you listed I'd go with [b]GC of Estrella [/b]and [b]Raven @ Verrado[/b].

If you want to consider courses not on your list my choices would be:

[b]The Boulders South [/b]and [b]Boulder North[/b]

[b]Southern Dunes [/b]- either play it twice or play the nearby [b]Duke at Rancho El Dorado [/b]or drive 30 min to play one of the [b]Whirlwind[/b] courses or the [b]ASU Karsten [/b]course. My choice would be to play SD twice as the Duke and Whirlwind are nice, but not in the class of Southern Dunes.

How about Superstition Mountain and Dinosaur Mountain for a combo? I am doing a similar trip at the end of April and we are playing 36-18-36-18.

1 - TPC Champions, Dinosaur Mountain
2 - Eagle Mountain
3 - WeKoPa - both courses
4 - TBD - any suggestions?

Wow, playing TPC then Dino Mnt in the same day? Thats a HIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, not a huge fan of the long drive. However, we saved quite a bit of $ if we did twilight at DM on a Thursday as opposed to standalone in the mid-morning on Friday. Google directions tells me it is approximately 40 miles and about 50 minutes. Accurate measure?

The first 4 courses you have are the ones i played last year in March. Great course, all so pure!! I dont think there was one thing wrong with any of them!!

We played Boulders as well and that was a really nice course as well. I found a lady on Craigslist that had the Boulders for $40 a person!!

A lot just depends on traffic, as the direction out to DM will be with the flow of heavy traffic, depending on what time of day it is.

I like the Boulders idea if it is in the budget otherwise I would go with Estrella and Verrado for a great lower priced option and still get awesome golf

We like the Boulders idea as well but when we enquired about it they said we could not play both courses on the same day. Does anybody know a way of doing this? Or do we just play the 1 course they have available twice to make it 36 for the day?

At Boulders I believe that one course is opened up to the public, and the other is open to the members only. They rotate daily I believe...

Just got back to the snow from 5 days in the Phoenix area.
Play 9 rounds in 5 days.
NOt sure where your staying as most of the courses up are northern side.
If out on that side, and still a bit of travel, but the Prospector course at Superstition mountain and the Gold course at Gold canyon seem to fit in with the caliber of courses that you have booked so far, they are both pretty awesome
I played Estrella last time is was there and it was GReat! So I have no trouble telling you to go there, but location to your stay might determine. To mix that with Raven At Verrado, is a fabulous day too.
I love the counrty club feel of Superstition Mountain and they are not likely to be played when they go back to private when they can.
Its hard to tell you not to out to play Southern Dunes as it might have been my most favorite course I played last week, but the Duke as a second just doest do it compared to your other options.

We always do Grayhawk for 36 holes then sit outside by the fireplace, have cocktails and watch people play in on the 18th green over the water!

It is our favorite place to end our golf days - even when we don't play it that day, we go for drinks and sit outside - Phil's is awesome!
