i wish we didnt have the tournament at TPC boston, i find it kinda overrated. The only thing it has is its length, which most course here lack the 7500 yrds or w,e needed
Certainly not the best course in the state, but they are a TPC facility and can handle the logistics of a PGA Tour event, so that's why they get the event...and yes, the length helps too. It just seems like you are basing your evaluation of the course (saying they are overrated) on the Tour event being there and not somewhere else in Mass, but a lot more than just golf course design goes in to that decision.

Full disclosure, it is my home course, so I am a fan.

Favorite Publics: Captains Port, Dennis Pines, Pinehills Nicklaus, Braintree Municipal, Blue Rock (par 3)
Favorite Privates: TPC, TCC, Eastward Ho, Wellesley, Dedham Polo, Hyannisport, Salem

Hoping to play this year: Old Sandwich, Weston, Boston Golf

Pretty impressive ranking for OS on this years golfweek rankings of modern courses

TCC was my home course in high school, Primrose 9 though. Played the composite once or twice before the Ryder Cup in 1999, awesome. Do you play on the Harvard golf team (I believe they still practice there?) or are you playing high school matches against Brookline?

I am not on the Harvard Golf team, i wish though. Two kids in the past 4 years went there from my school for golf(Tabor Academy) as our golf program is very strong and run as a D1 program. Harvard still practices there and pretty jealous. We are not playing brookline. It may be an invitational I am not sure, but can check my schedual.

So, for the record, you aren't playing there for school this year, BHS does not play Tabor.

I played for Wellesley in the late 90's and i remember playing you guys right before the Ryder Cup was held there. you may or may not have been on BHS at the time but i recall playing 3 or 4 holes from the Ryder cup and then maybe 5 or 6 holes from primrose. Who knows, you and i could have been in the same pairings!

Nice, yeah it could have been me. The course was closed in the Fall of 1999 to get ready for the tournament, so it actually would have had to be in 1998. We played all away matches in 1999 if I remember correctly, but were comped free tickets to make up for the "inconvenience." Best division in Mass high school golf was the Bay State League, TCC, Wellesley, Dedham, Brae Burn, Walpole, Framingham all private courses we were fortunate enough to play. Okay, enough on the glory days, back to topic..

 • 3 weeks later...

Played achusnet river valley for school.... alright condition, bumpy slow greens and bad bunkers but its spring and we are golfin so cant complain. Fairways are in good condition though.

I also played Pinehills for the first time of the year. In much better conditions, greens were nice, bunkers were good and its in great condition.

What courses are you all playing and how are they

Sorry to threadjack but which course did you play at Pinehills? I'm heading there Thursday-Friday and Saturday of this week to get some practise on the Nicklaus course because I'll be playing in the local qualifying for the Open in May. Everything was open on the course (back tees, greens)?
How were the practice area (putting, chipping and range)?

Many thanks!

no problem? What are you playing in, i know they hold a us open qualifer at some point on nickalous. I played the jones so wrong one, will get out there friday and saturday and play. They had the tips opened up though and the greens are a tiny bit bumpy but role pretty well. Sudnt be to much of a problem. As always facilities are awesome, but its mats only. However the chipping green is perfect, and can work on practically any shot you want. 2 more practice putting greens and they are at the same speed as i could tell as the course. You will enjoy it, esp if the weather is nice. Maybe ill see you there at some point over the weekend

nevermind didnt see you say the open
Thanks for the update, can't wait to get out there... courses are not even open yet over here because there is still some snow on the ground! Nice to hear about the greens and tip beeing open.

I'll be playing with my dad on the Nicklaus Thursday and Friday at around 10:35 and a bit earlier on Saturday (9:15 I think) because we're making the driver back to Montreal later in the day.

We'll be spending all day over there to get as much practice time in before we go back home. Glad to hear the short game areas are in good shape... that's where I'll be spending most of my time. As for mats, I've been hitting on them all winter long inside our gym so altough grass would have been fun, I'll live with it.

Thanks for the update and let me know if you're going to be there. It would be nice to play with a member from this great forum!

yeah no problem and hopefully. The nick course is kinda unique. A lot a holes that if you hit the right spots you can go low, and a lot of birdie chances as you can cut some corners or fly bunkers for run outs. If I play with you Ill see if i can help you. That being said, the course can easily bite you especially from the tips if you are not playing well.

cant wait to get out on kittansett Friday as its one of my favorite courses, ill let you all know who its looking.

Public: PineHills and Crumpin Fox

Private: Kittansett, Boston Golf, Pocasset, Winchester Privates in RI: Newport CC, Warwick CC

would love to play OS, maybe this summer.
How do you like Newport CC? My team has a invitational there
Newport is one of the three best in RI -- along with Misquamicut and Wannamoisett. And RI if full of great Courses. Other greats would be Sakonnet and RI CC, Shelter Harbor, Warwick and Metacomet are also excellent.

played 18 today at granite (granite and milton) and the course was in pretty good shape. very windy day but greens and fairways were solid condition. on the other hand, i think granite links is one of the most overrated courses in the area but it was a fun day nonetheless.
