Top 3 drivers

I haven't voted but I would also choose the R7 425 over the 460.

Assuming you buy the TM theory of moveable weights, the 425 is, so far the best example of it. It has four weight ports spread widely, as opposed to the two ports on the 460. So you can transfer twice as much weight, into more places. The R7 460 has a set weight in the back and two moveable ones at the sides. Now, the new R7 Draw has no moveable weights at all.

Either the theory is valid or it is not.

If you carefully read the TM website, it says the 425 is 18% more forgiving than the R7 (or something). Then it says that the R7 460 is 20% more forgiving than the R7 (or something). In other words, very minor differences.

But the 425 feels much better, is easier to turn over and looks better. For me.

Whether you go for the 425 or 425 TP is up to your swing, but I think the R7 425 is a great driver, and the 460 an ordinary one.

FWIW, and I can't see how one can vote on such things, I think the original R7 and the Ping G5 are dandy too.

I don't want to totally thread-jack here, but I couldn't agree more. I've owned both the R7 425 and the R7 460, and the 425 is a much better club in my opinion. I'm an above average golfer, but not really a low handicapper (around 15 right now). I am a good ball striker, but I have trouble with the driver; I tend to lose it right. Since it's a longer club I tend to not square it at impact. I could not for the life of me keep the 460 in the short grass. I'm hitting straight long bombs with the 425 though. I simply think the smaller head is easier to square, especially since I put all the weight in the heel. I've also had much better luck with an R5 TP. As an aside, I also HATE the Reax shaft. I know a lot of people like it, but for me I was hitting 200yd pop flies with it... i think the launch was just too high.

Anyway, sorry for going so far off topic. Here are my top 3:

1. Titleist 975jvs

2. TaylorMade R7 425

3. Titleist 983K

I've noticed several people choosing the Taylormade r7 425 over the r7 460. Can anyone explain the reason for this? I was under the impression that the 460 has a larger sweetspot, and perhaps a bit more distance as well then a 425?

I have the R7 425 10.5 and just picked up an R7 460 TP 10.5 this week. I hit some great drives with the 425 but I just wasn't consistent enough with it. I didn't care for the closed look at address and the club felt a little too head heavy for me especially toward the end of a round.

I prefer the weight of the R7 460 TP, the look at address and the REAX TP64 shaft by Mitsubishi Rayon seems to be a better fit for my swing. This shaft feels smooth, yet holds it's line well and doesn't seem that it can easily be overpowered.

As far as workability, that is what my 3 wood is for. I want my drivers to be mostly straight and long. The R7 425 and R7 460 TP are both great drivers and solid clubs, it just comes down to personal preferences and your swing.

Driver - TaylorMade Stealth2 9* w/ Project X HZRDUS 6.0 60g

3 wood - Sonartec NP99 w/ Matrix Ozik 60R

Rescue - Sonartec TRC 20* w/ Graphalloy ProLaunch Blue 60R

Hybrid - Adams Pro 3,4 & 5 w/ Adila VS Proto 80R

Irons - Callaway 2007 X-Forged 6-P w/ Aerotech SteelFiber i95R

Wedge - Cleveland Black Tour Action 588 56* w/ Dynamic Gold wedge shaft

Putter - Odyssey Eleven Tour Lined CS 35" Stroke Lab shaft

Thanks for the feedback about the TM 460/425 guys.. sorry I didn't mean to kinda hijack the thread. I would post my favourite 3, but I haven't ever used anything other then my Wilson Deep Red (I hit it pretty long and straight so I haven't had a reason to upgrade yet, though I'm starting to think about it just to see what difference it would make).
