12 Months... 6 New Drivers.... Same Handicap Index!

Why?
I am currently playing with a 983K. I have read about all this new technology over the past year and have bought the Ping G5, Titleist 905R, Taylormade 425, Callaway Ft3, Cleveland Hibore, Bridgestone 460 Drivers. I have played and practice with all of them. Yet, now that a year has passed, I am shooting the same scores as I did with my 983K. Also, my driving statistics have not really change that much as well. Aren't these new clubs supposed to be more forgiving, straighter and longer? Why is that so?

i don't know what you handicap is, but assuming a par 72 course, with 4 par 3's, you are looking at using driver 14 times, probably less than that. maybe your looking at the wrong part of your game, and if it is a problem, maybe money spent on lessons rather than drivers would be a bigger help.

i've experimented with a few drivers this year - started the year with a ignite 410, then briefly experimented with a ignite 460, then got on the sq and sq tour kick and have had the sq in the bag for the last 6 months. my handicap index has gone by 4 since then, but i don't contribute it to the driver but an improvement in my putting game with a red x, improvement in my short game, and most importantly more consistentency and distance with my irons.

Some good advice in this thread...I'm going to say the same thing. YES, your driving will affect your game if you end up off the fairway etc.., but if you find a driver you hit straight, then work on your short game and iron play.

As long as you're in the fairway, you should be able to hit the green if you hone your iron play and make sure your putting and short game is up to par.

No offence dude but did you really think that just by buying new sticks you will play better? what all but one of the previous posters said, work on your swing and short game. Much higher chance you'll see yourself shooting lower than just buying the latest equipment. :idhitit:

I actually suppose (as I read your post) that your problem is Driver Consistency (as again I suppose you are satisfied with the rest of your game).

I had the same problem in the past and all what I did was to use 3 and sometimes 5 woods for every par 4 and 5 on the course. Once I got my swing more consistent with the 3 wood then I started to use the driver again.

The FW woods are easier to hit than the driver and the distance is just a bit shorter (especially at this time) but the ball goes straight 80% of the times.

Leave your driver at home and use FW woods for few months then you will see the difference.

my 2 cents

I agree, remember that there is no "magic club" out there will lower scores instantly. Try better course management, work diligently on your short game and find a reputable instructor to take lessons from.

The answer is simple. You will hit driver A the exact same number of times as Driver B, C, or D. So there is no shot reduction. Even if you hit Driver A 30 yards further, you will still have to hit another shot. Golf is about short game and putting. Before you even step up to the first tee, the course gives you two chances on every green. If you use only one, great! Now if you can not hit a fairway and/or are erratic with any of the drivers you've metioned that is a slightly different story. However, I suspect this is not the case.

Pick a driver and stick with it, then go practice your short game and putting for a month. Your scores will drop.

Alot of people talking about the game improving equipment in golf - BULLOCKS. You still have to hit it, there are no magic clubs. The improvement in the equipment, just take the edge off. For example, They may striaghten out a fade/draw, but you have to fix a swing problem in order to fix a hook or slice. You could buy every driver made and still never break 100 (just an example, not saying you shot 100). The best way to fix a broken swing is practice not purchase.

Just like the man said "its the indian not the arrow", LOL.

On the other hand, I have a 9.5* TM R5 w/Aldila nv65 stiff shaft that I am trying to unload, PM me if you are interested, LOL.

OK just from reading what you posted I have to assume you are new to the game. Not trying to sound like an word not allowed here buddy but if Tiger Woods came up to me and said "here, take my clubs, you can have em" do you think that all of a sudden my game is gonna just suddenly improve? Why don't you take a look at what you just posted. Look at all those drivers you bought. Assuming the avereage driver is around $400 you just walloped $2,400 in one year with no progress. Bad investment! There's a lot more to this game than just driving. There's iron shots, chip shots, sand shots, and probably the most important in statistics.... putting. So instead of going out and buying all these new drivers, go to the practice range and practice, and if you see that you are doing something wrong take all that money and get some lessons to fix it!

I agree with the putting, but bad driving is frustrating, and i feel your tee shot really sets everything up. If you drove it on the fairway and gave yourself a chance at the green instead oh having to hit a wedge shot under a tree with no angle at the pin, and then have to make a twenty footer for par. My philosophy is you aren't going to make all the ten footer's ( a no brainer!). But I feel everyones pain when they can't hit their driver straight, i've been struggling as late. But i think as a guy i struggle with the fact that if i eased up my swing i'd probably hit it straighter as well as further, but i just can't get that through my head.

sorry for the rant, but stick with te 983, one of the best clubs ever :idhitit:
