I will be in the Prosper / Frisco area over Thanksgiving. Anyone have good tips for courses? How is the Bridges course in Gunther? Anyone interested in playing?

I live about 10 minutes from The Bridges and play it 5-6 times a year. From Prosper you can probably get there in about 20-25 minutes. It's a Fred Couples course, wide open, links style. It's worth playing if for not other reason it relatively inexpensive compared to course like the Tribute, Old American, and Cowboys, none of which I have ever played.

With numerous tee choices it can play it as long as you want, I think up to 7,700 if you want. Greens are big, very undulating, and they can get them quite fast if they want to. I enjoy playing it just for a change of pace. Being wide open, if it's windy it will be very windy, if it's cold it will be very cold, and if it's hot it will be very hot.

Has some fun and unique holes like a driveable par 4 (#6 depending on which tee and the wind) and one green (14th) that looks like they buried 2 or 3 elephants right in the middle of it. When putting on #7 look right off the very back right hand corner of the green and you'll see the back tee box for the next hole literally about 5 yards from the green. The 18th hole is quite the "fun" hole. It's a par 5 where you hit over water 3 times. One other thing that most people won't notice is the front 9 goes out in a circle and the back nine makes a figure 8.

It's definitely worth it unless you are only playing one day and then I would try to get on somewhere else like Gentle Creek in Prosper which is absolutely my favorite course in the area. It's just a very fun course to play and its much nicer than the Bridges. But you have to have some connections to get on there. If you are a member somewhere have your pro call them or you can just call them yourself. It's definitely worth a try.

I am heading to Dallas next weekend for a golf trip. Like to get in 3 rounds and have decided on Old American as one of them. Prefer not to drive more than an hour outside of Dallas. Here's what I was thinking but would appreciate your advice - want to play three distinct course especially any that are native Texas style.

Round 1: Tribute (Although I feel that this maybe similar to Old American) - Any suggestions on alternatives or is this a can't miss course?
Round 2: Old American
Round 3: Need to play somewhere in Dallas proper since I am flying out of Lovefield in the late afternoon - Stevens Park or can I do better?

Thanks!

Tribute and Old American have a different look and feel. The conditions will likely be the same, but I do not think Old American plays like a Links course, at all. It doesn't look like it from the road, and range.

If you are flying out of Love, hit Tenison Highlands.

Got it. Out of curiosity, which one would you pick: Tribute, Texas Star, Tierra Verde or Skycreek Ranch.

From that list I'd pick texas star for sure. Tierra verde is a great layout, not sure of the conditions though. They had green issues this time last year.

Tribute and Old American are night and day different. Tribute is links style, wide open fairways. Old American is much harder and similar to Pete Dye courses I have played. Difficult to know where to hit it off the tee unless you have played it before.
