Sergio Garcia Issues Ryder Cup Challenge

Whether a league has diversity is not the point. The point is that a domestic competition cannot possibly decide which is the best team in the World. English Premiership = Probably the most diverse and strongest football league in the world, would the champions ever declare themselves world champions? Never, there is a tournament to decide just that.

Don't get me wrong, Tiger is without doubt the greatest golfer in the world and more than likely in history. I just get frustrated when people don't acknowledge that there is a big wide world out there! and Sergio happens to be the 8th best right now!!

I hope the real Tiger turns up this weekend, then we will have an immense battle to watch. I for one can't wait.

The reason we call them world champions is because our teams search the world to bring the best players to the States to compete in our leagues & yes that includes golf. Our teams are not national teams but teams that have members from all over the world. Tell me another country that has the same diversity in its leagues/associations (golf, baseball & basketball) and has the highest level of competition? People want to come to the States because this is where the best players in the world compete and it does not hurt that Americans will put up a butt load of money to see them compete.

English Premiership (football), Italian Serie A (football), Spanish Premierer Liga (sp) (football), English Zurich Premiership (rugby), European Tour (golf). All of the above have a lot of diversity and are world class leagues/competitions. And whilst the European Tour isn't as strong as the PGA Tour it is definately more diverse. It takes in more countries and probably has more nationalities represented on it - from Singapore, to Thailand, to China, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, England, Wales, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany......need I go on?

jaridyard ahs it exactly right - there is a whole world out there, it isn't centred on the US as much as Americans would like to think it is. To call a team that only plays in America world champions smacks of arrogance.

Oh yeah, and please, who won the recent Basketball World Championships??

as someone stated earlier about America attracting the best in the world. don't you mean the director of the PGA Tour writes them a letter demanding they play in America more often or they can't play there at all. it's a good job Ernie gave him a back handed slap and told him "There's a world outside of America and I'm part of it!".

Well it just shows how that Golf is such an individual sport here in the US. I watched Tiger not even shake Fuyrk's hand after this afternoons match. Tiger fans out there understand that he has not played well during the Cup and that is what Tiger haters are going to pick at. Sergio is playing on a team that takes this more serious than any individual event. Sergio knows his team will support him. He is also 7-0 now in 4 ball so give the guy a little credit. Hes a team player. I just feel good that Sergio cant play like this on Tour. If he did he might actually win a Major or 2. Bottom line watch Tiger hes not having fun, to serious. Sergio on the other hand is having fun, playing with the crowd and feeding off the moment. Oh by the way, Tiger nice way to start the Ryder Cup. 44444444444 Left watch out FISH!!!

Well, now that everything's been said and done, I think this has been put to bed.

Head-to-head: Sergio 1, Tiger 0

Final score: Sergio 4, Tiger 3

By no means a KO victory, but a win's a win. And surely there is no doubting that Segio's form over the 3 days was far superior.

Congratulations Europe. Now I just have to wait until the Presidents Cup next year for the Aussies to have a go... :D

The numbers are still skewed, there was no head to head action, it was team-based meetings.

But I will grant that for 3 days, every two years, Sergio is a better player than Tiger.

Didn't Sergio ond Luke play Tiger and Jim?

Seems head to head to me - even if it was foursomes.

Oh well......

Head to head means one on one where you are responsible for every shot. Tiger could not control how Jim played and vise versa. Golf is an individual sport in the States, we suck at team golf.

You guys can try and sugarcoat it as much as you like, but as far as I am concerned, a scoreboard that reads "Garcia/Donald def Woods/Furyk 2up" means they went head to head...

Anyways, like I said - bring on the Presidents Cup so I can cheer the Aussies on. BTW Gozz, the USA have a pretty good record in the Presidents Cup, so saying 'we suck at team golf' might be a little selective.

Maybe you just suck at Team Golf against Europe every other year. :beach:

Or maybe (and more truthfully) you guys were just beat by a better team this time around... :cheesy:

Not "suger coating", just a different perspective. Wasn't that meeting alternate shot as well? That, IMO, takes the term "head to head" completely out.

And btw, there is no doubt they got whooped by a better team. I'm in no way trying to down play the win by Europe. Sergio's snide remarks and "it's my toy, you can't play with it" attitude is what gripes my a55. I'm glad Cink handed Sergio his a55 back at the end of their match. Must be a little sore still with his score today at the WGC Amex.

We do suck at team golf and we did get beat by a better team. As I said, golf is an individual sport in the States. Our team has no leadership and does seam to care about the competition unless there is something in it for them (ie $$$$$$$$$). I MISS PAYNE STEWART!

I'm not a fan of the Presidents Cup. It appears to be a creation of Tim Finchem in order to line the pockets of the PGA Tour. He saw the money that comes out of the Ryder Cup and wanted to get a part of it.
