Mud on the ball

Is anyone else getting tired of hearing about the mud the players at the 84 Lumber tournament are getting on their ball. I play a lot of competitive golf and it almost never happens that we get lift clean and place. These guys have to do it one day and the announcers act like it is almost an unplayable situation. These guys are so good that I don't beleive matters except in a rare situation. Just like playing in a big wind..if you hit is solid it doesn't matter that much.

Just wish the announcers would concentrate on the golf and stop commenting on the wet conditons.

One thing that the announcers have going for them is that they get to actually see the golf course before the round begins, so maybe they have a little more insight on how the course was playing. I wasn't there to see for myself so I can't comment. Were you? Simp

Well, then you should've had an up close and personal view of what the conditions were like, and could've drawn your own conclusions. I'm sure that the lift, clean and place was necessary if they were letting the players do it. If it's necessary then it's definitely part of the game. If it's part of the game then the announcers have every right to cover it as they see fit. I was watching Friday and I saw Michelle Wie hit a very low drive and when it landed it just bounced straight back. If the fairways are that soft then I'm sure mud-balls were a problem.

I guess it would depend exactly how bad the mud was. If it's just some really loose, almost watery dirt, then it may not affect the ball as much as a clump of solid mud caked to one side of their ball. But don't forget, it's those "not so huge differences" that results in players shooting even par as opposed to shooting 67 or 68.

I agree with Virgina Tech, these guys are such primadonnas. Best players in the world should be able to play in any conditions. I know people are going to yell at me, but I hate when Jack Nicklaus cries, and he does, about how it is unfare when you hit a ball down the middle of a fairway and it lands in a divot. Thats what makes golf, golf. Its a game where you have to learn to adapt and take it how it comes.

Same with the nonsense over the specially raked bunkers for the one tournament they tried them at. Didnt stop hearing about that all weekend, how they might actually have to play the bunkers as a hazzard now.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
