Pear Shaped 3wd

That's not a Titleist!
Can anyone recommend a pear-shaped 3wd that doesn't say Titleist on it?

Not that I've got anything against Titleist :cheesy: --just looking for some options. I've come to realize that nothing really appeals to my eye except 'pear shaped' woods. For some reason I hit them best...ok, I admit to being a mental case :D ....but who among us isn't? :D

I'm open to just about anything....tour, import, domestic, component co's...whatever.

Performance reviews of your pear shaped 3wd would be a huge help as well!

...i had a 3 wood shootout this spring between a t60, ss3.5, ss07, adams rpm tour, j33 and an exotic. the t60 came out a winner, although they all wewre very good... t-60 is pear shaped and equally good from the tee or fairway.

I'm a B'stone lover...can you comment on the shape, performance, and feel the J33 3wd?

BEST 3 wood I have ever owned! Perfect size and shape. Sits dead square and drops bombs. You won't be sorry if you pick one up... :cheesy:

So is the B'stone 3wd shaped like the J33P or R?

That might work. Just thought that a thick black paint might do a better job in covering up the debossed area. If you just remove the paint fill, might still be able to slightly make out the name.

Separately, not sure if your objection to Titleist is based on aesthetics or principles. However, if you haven't yet the 906F2, you might at least want to give it a try. I'm guessing from your setup that you fight a high ball flight, since all your clubs give a very controlled trajectory.

I'm also a fan of Sonartec and have a 3.5 14*, as well as a MD 19*. For me, the 906F2 is right there with the 3.5, and is much superior to the 980F and 904F in terms of ballflight and accuracy.

If it's just the name you don't like, you might seriously consider the paint remover or maybe even a belt sander.

Good luck in your quest. Nothing like a 3wd that you have confidence in.

Ah man...

I've got lots of love for Titleist gear. As I type, I own a 585H, 905S, PT13, and a 970 (in classifieds right now)...but there was a time when I played nothing but Titleist! I love most of their stuff, I'm just curious what else is out there.

I have heard great things about the 906, but haven't hit it yet..

From the personal collection:

Do I get any sort of club 'ho boy scout service badge or something? :D

Mr. D,

Wow! I've got a few kickin' around myself but to have all of the 3wds discussed here--that's impressive! Just a coincidence? :cheesy: .....hmmm

Now that we've seen the pics, (thanks for posting BTW), you've got give a little head to head to head review. I'd love to hear about how they play, look , feel, etc!

There are several options for a pear shaped 3 wood. I have demo'd several of the options and there is nothing, and I mean nothing, in the current or recent offering that makes me want to replace my original PT 15 3 wood. Yes, this a Titleist from the early 90s, just like what Tiger had been playing. I have had it for quite some time and this 3 wood is very dependable. I have a great shaft in it and I am not even tempted in another 3 wood.

MO, this is the best 3 wood I have ever played with possible exception of the MacGregor Tommy Armour 945W (1953 model) persimmon 3 wood (S300 shaft) that I used to play. Today's balls does not make for a good match so my trusted persimmon 3 wood sits downstairs in my extra club bag.

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

GW / SW: Mizuno T-22, 52° (bent to 50°)/ 56° (bent to 54°), True Temper S400

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Putter:  Byron Morgan Epic Day custom, Salty MidPlus cork grip

Grips:  BestGrips Augusta Microperf leather slip on

I haven't had much time with the B'stone or Titleist yet.

B'stone: Higher launch, a little more spin it would seem. Soft feel off the face (17-4 construction vs. the hotter yet slightly more "tingy" sensation of 455 carpenter.) Not too difficult to hit off the deck. A sleeper for the prices you can get these at now.

Titleist: So far: Long! (290 to the pin from tight FW lie on long par 5, put it in the greenside bunker on the fly about 275.) Mid flight, hot trajectory. So far, a little more demanding off the deck than the 904F, but more real estate with regard to size to work with off the tee, so it's a good compromise. Completely different feel from the 904F, much better in my opinion.

Cleveland: Sweet, hot face. Mid/high launch with a little more spin than the Titleist it would seem. Little less forgiving than the Titleist and B'stone, but not by a large margin. Re-shaft is needed from the Gold shaft. It was near unplayable with that shaft. (.335" tip Purple Ice 85 stiff in it now, much better.) Cheap! Very under-appreciated club.

NV 75's in the B'stone and Titleist. Not wild about that shaft in either, but it's serviceable at least.

All 3 sit nice and square, as I hope is evidenced by the pics. They're all workable of course. I'd have no problem putting any of these in my bag on any given day. Glad to confuse the issue and make your decision that much harder... :D

So is the B'stone 3wd shaped like the J33P or R?

You have the Bridgestone 5 wood, yes? I think it would be safe to assume that the 3 wood is similar in terms of asthetics. FWIW, I have the J33 3 wood and like it alot.

Well, the only way to start limiting your options is to start 'field testing'.

So in addition to the SS3.5, PT13, and 970 that I already have, I just picked up a B'stone 3wd (Thanks Brian). I've also got a Fuji Tour Spec TRTI on its way for the J33. I have a feeling this may be start of a long friendship...

Either that or back to the PT15 bore thru...I couldn't miss a fairway with that baby...should have never got rid of it.
