Wood Brothers Traditions

Traditions and American Classics/Sec/State Geo Schultz woods
Thought you might want to see some unique Wood BrothersTraditions persimmons and American classics from Oregon Golf and Dave Woods replies to my questions about them.

I thought the Traditions were pretty cool looking with the different WB stamping.

Dave is a class act. very friendly and explained all the things I asked and more.

The Jerry Mowlds Driver I asked Jerry about when and where he got them, he thought they might have been before Wood Brothers. Dave straightened that out!!

Dave also sent some pictures of the woods made for George Schultz, former Secretary of State explaining where the American Classic soleplate came from.

I have attached Daves comments also.

Hi Tim,

Thank you. My apologies for taking so long to get back with you, the explanation about the "Tradition" woods you posses isn't simple.

They are not made by Wood Bros, but were built by my brother Charlie Wood in the late 90's. I sold Wood Bros to Nihon Hymo, a Japanese industrial company in 1996. The Japanese company sold WB in 1998 to Chuck Watson of Dynagy Energy. Watson bankrupted the brand after about a year. My brother Charlie, with a group of investors started a small golf business in Humble, Tx that they called Wood Brothers Inc.
Charlie made the "Tradition woods from old WB turnings and components. So as you can see Tim, the woods are not made by my old Wood Bros brand, but are definitely related.

Hope this helps. If it isn't too much of a bother, I would like to see the pictures if you got some.

Best wishes

Dave
Thanks for sending the photo of your "Traditions". They look like they are in excellent condition.

Regarding your "American Classics" woods. In the 1980's Wood Bros clubs were selling for absolutely incredible prices in the Japanese market. This caused for other club makers to imitate with similar looking clubs. We filed lawsuits against many, including Oregon Golf the maker of the "American Classics". These woods attempted to copy our "All-American" models.

The "All-American's" were originally designed for George P. Schultz, US Department of State Chief and Augusta National member. (Attached photos) WB made a lot of AA designed woods for other members of the Reagan cabinet and the following Bush cabinet. In the late 80's, we began offering a somewhat standardized version to the market.

Best regards

Dave

Tim,
I really like those WB clubs, just beautiful. The face on that Tradition driver looks so cool, very similar to the original "Texan" that Dave hand made a few years prior. I agree, Dave is a fantastic person and is always willing to share history and info on his clubs. He's one of the greatest Persimmon craftsman of all time IMO. He really knew how to make a beautiful club. A true Artist. I love all the Wood Bros clubs and never get sick of looking at them. Thanks for showing them.

Great clubs. One minor adjustment. There is no "c" in george Shultz's last name
Those are the real deal and really cool...as are the other woods.
