Wood Bros Texan

Tour issue
I just received this awesome beauty. The sellers business partner taught Brad Faxon and became good friends with him and was given this Texan from Brad. The head shape is amazing, reminds me of some of the best deep face MacGregors I've seen that set up real square with no face progression. Its got an Apex 5 shaft. The brass sole plate was used when the player wanted a lower cent of gravity and not many made it out on Tour. Great to own a club owned by a fellow New Englander and a classy player like Brad.

I could've sworn I saw one of those in LH mid-eighties - remember just staring at it, stunning. If I was dreaming, so be it - if not, should've bought it right there and then! Thanks for the pics and the stroll down memory lane!

Drew, it is a sweet looking club. I have never seen one that looks better at address. Hultis, the sole plate is Brass, which is pretty rare for a texan. Most were Aluminum. There is also some dark spots near the toe side bottom which I believe are natural carbon spots in the wood. There is also some substance that appears to be the result of perhaps some lead tape that might have been on the bottom of the plate. Not positive about that, but thats what it looks like to me. I'm not going to attempt to rub it off, thats for sure.

I hit the links tonight about 40 min before sun down, with 6 or 7 Titleist Prestige wound balls and had a blast hitting this. As usual I had a few thoughts during the process. Its been a long time since I swung one of these. Its amazing how much heavier and unforgiving these clubs are, but a good swing rewards a shot you can only feel with a nice persimmon. The Apex 5 shaft is an awesome stiff shaft. 1st time I ever hit an apex 5 in a driver. Its definitely more suited for a guy who probably played the tour in the 80s, but I managed to get a few solid nice flighted ropes. Not bad after sitting in a chair all day. Its always a ride down memory lane walking up the fairway with one of these clubs and hitting one flush. There's nothing like it. The golf course looks and feels so different to me.
