Tour Striker Pro 5?

Does it make you get too steep with long irons?
For those who own the tour striker pro 5. I just have a question. I don't have one. Here is my question: Does the tour striker pro 5 cause you to get too steep with long irons?

It almost looks like the sole can work as bounce and it would slide on top of the turf no matter how steep you get. It looks like it would be difficult to hit the Tour Striker fat. So, it would seem that after you groove your swing with the tour striker pro 5, that you may be too getting steep with your long irons.

The Tour Striker does not teach you to hit down steeply. It teaches you to lean the handle forward. These two concepts are completely independant of one another.

a tricky concept for a lot of golfers is that with a correctly lagging clubhead, the hands and club head are not "in sync". when the struggling golfer discovers he needs to hit with a decending blow and foward shaft lean he'll attack the ball with his hands still approaching their low point, i.e. down and out. if the hands are just before the bottom of their rc then the clubhead MILES away from it's bottom or STEEP!

however, with the clubhead trailing the hands. the hands will reach their low point and start traveling up and in while the clubhead is still travelling down and out, just approaching it's bottom. this way you have a much shallower, but still descending, angle attack. this is the type of impact the tour striker teaches by making impossible to hit a good shot any other way.

Like Doc Loomis says, the two are independent. My preference is a shallow AoA while incorporating lean. If you can figure out those alignments for your body and swing style, you are off to hitting some nice shots. When I practice, which isn't often enough, I try and "pick" the TS off tight lies while still hitting it high. I have no problems taking divots, but I try and work in lean with shallow AoA to have "bacon strip" divots rather than "pork chops," to quote Moe Norman.

Seems to be the common misconception amongst golfers and coaches.

Leaning the shaft forward and having hipslide will SHALLOW the strike assuming a golfer knows how to do the follow-through properly.

Get the Tour Striker if you can't find a competent instructor, and there aren't too many out there ;) . The Tour Striker is a really nice tool for every golfer over a 10 handicap!

I think the term "hitting down on the ball" has ruined more golfers (and fairways because of deep divots) than anything else. You dont have to come at it steep in order to have proper lag (hands in front of the ball) in order to make the tour striker work. Hell, I can hit it on the sweet spot without leaving much of a divot at all.

You are on the money Martin. Forward lean with a shallow divot = less spin loft = higher smash factor = more ball speed.

Great points. However, it still looks like you would be able to come down really steep with the TS pro 5 and get away with it because there is no leading edge and the shaven area acts as bounce.

You can definitely do that. Its just that the Tour Striker is not trying to get you to hit down that much. Also, if you do, the launch angle might get too low.
