Wilson 888 Black Putters

I was just looking on the Wilson website for 8883 specs and saw that they have a new 'BLK' line that look interesting. Anyone know when these putters will be available?

Thanks

Love the look of the 8882 and 8883. Very clean and classic.

I'm just hoping the price comes in more towards Cleveland Classic than Cameron.

I hope so too. I game the current 8883, but am looking at the Cleveland Classic No 2.

Those putters are currently out and I believe are $69 or $79, they are very nice and roll the ball well.

Just checked with Wilson distributor in the UK...888 BLK line out in the UK in January - first new putter in the bag for 2012 probably!!

I am currently playing the Old Wilson 8802 putter and have been for quite some time. After seeing this website and the new line of putters especially the Black Wilson 8882.

Here is my question. What is the purpose of the ridges on the face of the putter and how would it be different from my flat steel face putter? Any elaboration on the effect it has on golf ball. (i.e.) the grooves keep the ball on line better etc.

Thanks in advance - As you can tell I don't change putter much...LOL

For me the milling gives a softer feel, particularly compared to my old Wilson 8813. I have putted with my 8883 back-to-back with my buddy's Scotty Cameron and the feel is very similar. I would say that the Scotty is slighter firmer with more of a 'click' off the putter face. I prefer the Wilson, but each to their own.

In the original marketing of the 888 series, I think Wilson said that the shape of the grooves was designed to impart corrective sidespin for off-centre hits. I can't say that I have noticed much of an affect.

The 8882 looks nice. Hopefully it will be made from a decent grade of carbon steel, but looking at the RRP I'll be surprised if it is.

I wish Wilson would include the weights in the specs on their website.

I agree. I also wish there was loft and lie specs... kinda annoying. I will try to find some answers this week.

Despite the UK Wilson site saying the 8882 will be available in leftie, including a pic of a leftie version, I've just had it confirmed that the 8882 WON'T be available in leftie in the UK. fool.gif

Does anyone know if it will be available elsewhere in leftie, or is their website yet another example of Wilson's incompetence?

I got one today.
I actually thought I had the 350$ Cameron in my hand and really enjoyed the feel of it.
Then I remembered the grip was a bit tacky for a Cameron, look down and there is the Wilson Staff name on it.

I'm now the golfer who is playing the 888 1 BLK.

I'm going to have to paint over the last trail line as it is a little off with my eye. But it feels right, it looks right and that is all I can ask for without playing a few dozen rounds with it.

Hopefully a whole new setup coming soon!

I have one of last years model of the 8882 and I love it. It has great feel and it has a nice soft sound off the head. The grooves do help in the spin aspect of the putter. I like the non glare finish some what of an oil can bronze finish but i love the putter. Then again I have played blade putters most of my life. I had a cameron del mar but i did not like the feel of it too well that is when i bought the wilson 8882. I just put a midsized grip on it and played with it this week and i was rolling it great. Not that i wasnt rolling it before just the grip made the club feel even better in my hands.

Just switched back to my old 8813 recently. Just wondered if the 8882 moves the game on? As none of the big High Street golf retailers in the UK stocks blade-type putters, I haven't had chance to roll one. Nothing I have tried can touch the 8813 for feel, but it is a touch light for me after I trimmed it down to 34" from 35". I can't find the headweight of the 8882 anywhere.

'moves the game on'???
do a search for weight, I posted it when they first came out... 335 or so iirc
[/quote]Thanks...335 is in the right ballpark for me. My reference to 'moving the game on' was specifically aimed at whether the milling adds anything to the feel (difficult I know) or the roll of the ball off the face??

I still game the 8882 which has been in the bag for almost a year and a half, during that time I have tried and tested other putters including a failed experiment with a long putter. I just can't ignore how well I putt with it
