Dancing Rabbit and Old Waverly Mississippi Report

I wanted to give a little report about the Dancing Rabbit Azaleas course and Old Waverly courses in Mid East Mississippi

Both are fantastic courses. Easily nicer then anything I get to play in Louisiana. I stayed on both properties one night and played one round.

First the Azaleas course. Played twilight Friday, cost was $75, course was near empty. Cold in the morning but right around 60 when I teed off.
The course is in terrific condition tee to green. I really like the options they had for distances. I played the blues, after driving 250 miles I thought that would be best. The greens were very soft but fast. Ultra true. Shot 81 with two double late in the round when it was pretty dark.

The elevation changes are remarkable! I really enjoyed all the manicured areas off the fairway, pine needles, and rock borers all over. Hit it in the fairway and you can score. Not overly long. Very playable. A few holes to me seemed much harder than the average of the course. Mostly I hit driver 7-pw into greens. All the par 5s were risk reward lengths, except for #10 which you can't reach in two. I laid up on all of them, made one birdie.

I played Old Waverly Saturday. Its a very hard golf course. Played to 144 slope from the tips I played! The course wore me down, I would make a birdie then a double, few pars few bogies on my way to a 84! The greens were FANTASTIC. Probably the fastest I have ever played. They rolled as true as you could imagine. The greens released a lot more than the Azaleas as I had longer irons into them and because of the speed. The practice area is also first class all the way. I played with 3 members they said the greens were even faster earlier in the week and that they were rolling Augusta fast, and I could believe it.
The course features a lot of water (I washed one) and some length. The course is a tough test from start to finish.

If you get a chance to play either courses, have your game ready

Also, on your way back to LA., stay on I20 and stop of in Delhi, drive thru town, keep going North for abotu 7 miles and turn East @ Warner (by the Poverty Point Lake) and play Black Bear. It's so under-rated. It's not Old Waverly, but it's a helluva golf course.

Great pics! I enjoy it every time I get to play Dancing Rabbit. Just wish they hadn't raised their prices. Used to be able to get off at twilight for under $60. I've never tried Old Waverly, though I always dreamed about playing there when I lived in MS.
