Indoor range/facility in Delaware, Philadelphia, Baltimore

Recommended Posts

I live in Northern Delaware (Wilmington). Previous residences were Georgia and Las Vegas, so I'm not used to the winter. Does anyone know of an indoor driving range / practice facility in this area? I'd be willing to drive up to an hour or so which would include Philadelphia and Baltimore, and I guess parts of New Jersey.

Or, does anyone who lives in this area know of a good heated range? All the ones I frequent are either not heated or closed for the season already.

Thanks!

Golf USA in Limerick PA has indoor driving. I've never been so can't comment on the facilities. Limerick may be a bit far for you though.

Tee It Up Golf in West Chester PA is an outdoor range with Heaters and decent mats www.teeitupgolfpa.com. Just off 202 so easy to get to from Wilmington.

Another option is Play a round golf in Malvern , indoor facility with simulators where you can hit into a virtual driving range and then switch to playing actual courses. Also easy to get to from Wilmington. www.playaroundgolf.net

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I'm gonna check out the range in West Chester on Tuesday (my Saturday).

Have you been to the Play-a-Round place in Malvern? If so, how is it? I enjoy hitting into the simulator at Golf Galaxy, so it'd be cool to play a whole round like that.

I really liked it the couple of times i've been there. They've since moved to a little smaller footprint in the same shopping center but I believe the following still applies in their new location:

Driving Range Simulator , you enter the club you're hitting and it tracks each shot. Then when you're done you can log into their website later and see all your stats for each club

Switch from driving range to playing a course and you can select from a ton of actual courses. Pretty fun to "play" some courses you'll never get to. Except for putting , I don't like putting into a screen so i just take the defaults .... gimmes inside x feet ( you set x) and 2 put default outside x.

They have tables and chairs set up with each simulator so you can relax in between shots if you're playing with a group. It's BYO so you can bring in beers . You can bring in food too , Carraba's is next door and has take out ( i think i read they'll even deliver to you while playing). They used to have sandwiches and things they sold there but don't recall.

Nice way to spend an hour or 2 on a cold winters.

Never set foot in the place, but there is a place in Oaks, PA called Par Breakers. They have a website to check out what they offer.

Par Breakers closed their indoor facility in Oaks a few months back. They do their indoor teaching out of Golf USA up in Limerick now.

Did you end up going to Tee it Up? I live in W.C. and find the place to be a little over priced. Curious to hear about you experience.

I've used play a round a bunch of times, meaning more that 20. Agree with the putting assessment above and I usually employ the same tactics. The distances are generally not accurate, but the swing and ball data you get more than makes up for this flaw. The place is clean, owners are super nice. It's especially fun with three of your friends as a social event.

Been to tee it up many times as well, probably since it opened. Driving range is big. My biggest complaint is (and I'm speculating here), are the balls they use. I believe these are the ones designed not to fly more than 200 yrds. In their defense, they absolutely need to do this as there is a highway on the back end of the range. They have nets up and such, but insurance and/or common sense probably requires them to limit their risks (again speculation). However, I do not use this place much due to the limited ball flight.....not good for me.

Hope that helps.

I went to these places today.

The Tee-It-Up range was nice, but not spectacular enough for me to make the extra drive(it's about 45 mins from me). The heaters don't do much. The mats were nice, and the place was clean and well kept. Could've used more targets, and the balls weren't all that great. Also, it was overpriced. $10 for a medium (75 balls) bucket.

The Par Breakers facility at Golf USA is nothing more than a net set up over a wall on one side of a golf shop. The wall had windows which I imagine would look strange to fire balls at. I say imagine because I didn't bother to make use of this facility. Standard prices for "range" balls, which seems strange when you're only hitting them 20 feet (if even). The mats in the 3-4 hitting stations were terrible and didn't even match which seemed strange. I suppose if I lived nearby and was really jonesin' to hit some balls on a snowy day it would have been worth it. I heard the old location had a short game area. This one didn't. The store was well stocked and prices seemed good, though.

Play-a-Round golf was clearly the best trip of the day. The staff was pleasant. The facility was clean and kept up well. There were at least 6 or 8 hitting bays. Each is an enclosed full simulator in which you can use a practice mode or choose from 30 or so courses, including many famous courses such as Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass. The mats were cool as each had a short tee, long tee, rough area, sand area (beige fake grass identical to rough area other than color), and fairway area. Putting was pretty lame, but you can set it to give you a gimmie at various distances or automatic two-putts. Short game shots were difficult to master. I felt like it was more like a much better version of Golden Tee (video game) than a realistic golf game. The tee shots were fine, but I thought the rest were hurting more than helping. They allow (even encourage) you to bring your own beverages (alcohol is allowed) and food. A group of guys next to me had pizzas and a cooler full of brewskies. Definitely a fun outing, but I wouldn't expect it to be good practice for your golf game other than just range practice. The stats were cool, but I question their accuracy. Plus, at my level I'm not quite ready to digest all the different statistics. I felt it was a little expensive, at $35 an hour, but if you look at it as a seperate activity like bowling instead of comparing it to golf it's almost reasonable. Overall, I had fun.

Added a few miles to your car on that outing.

A couple more options that I recalled in the Area. Both are covered ranges but don't recall if heated .

1. Golf Zone in Downingtown. Much better distance markings and targets than tee it up. I've hit from the grass area in the past ( very good condition) but from walking past the mats I think they were pretty beat up....but it's been a long time.
Nice range

2. Tees ( think that's the name) in Conshohocken - you'll have to do some investigation on this as it's been too many years since i've been there , but it was a pretty good range the one or two times i was there.

 • 1 year later...

Any updates in the past year for indoor practice facilities in the Wilmington area? Texas boy here that moved here last summer. With snow on the ground and the Weather Channel forecasting temps in the 30's for at least the next 10 days, I'm done.

Play A Round golf in Malvern is an awesome place, nice people running it as well but its 30+ minutes AND it's $35\hour...$15 would be easier to stomach. I'm sure their AG sims are very expensive and they have to make their money this time of year to make it profitable...but still. I could easily spend 2-3 hours there and drop over $100.

We do have a new Golfsmith with nice people but I don't think they "rent" their sims even though the last few times I've been there it was dead.

HELP please!!
