Golf Trip Advice

Hey guys. My mom, cousin and I are heading down to Kiawah from PA in August for the PGA championship. On our way down we want to try and play a couple rounds. So far we've decided on Tobacco Road in NC. To whoever has played it, what do you think and is it a good choice? Also, we're going to Myrtle Beach for a few days and want to play there once. What courses would you guys recommend? After doing some research, I liked Tidewater, but is it a good course to play?

Tobacco Road is a very good choice.

In MB Tidewater is a challenging course with some pretty holes along the tidal marshland and some pretty woodland holes as well. However, my three favorite courses in MB are Caledonia, True Blue and the Dunes Club. Caledonia and True Blue were designed by Mike Strantz who alos designed Tobacco Road. All three courses are quite different so you's get an interesting experience comparing the varied artistry that Strantz left behind if you play Cally or TB.

Yes, I prefer True Blue to Tidewater,so does the rest of my group. I think that most people who have played both prefer True Blue, but Tidewater is also a top ten course in MB and many people love it for the holes along the marshland.

I have never played True Blue but have played Tidewater numerous times. I agree that the holes along the marsh are amazing, but other than that, most of the other holes do not have as much appeal to them. I prefer other courses in the Myrtle Beach area such as Glen Dornach or Heather Glen over Tidewater. Another course close to Myrtle Beach that I found really fun to play was The Witch. It's a good layout and has a "spooky" presence to it with all of the spanish mosh and swampland. We even saw a few gators in a couple of the ponds.
