PING Anser irons vs i20

Now that I can buy a set of used Anser irons without having to take a second (third?) mortgage on the house, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Ansers vis-a-vis the new i20's. Distance, feel (I know the Ansers are forged), forgiveness, etc.

 

Also any comparisons to 712 AP2s are welcome as my current set just isn't doing it for me....want to go back to PING.

i hit the anser and i20 side by side and im leaning more towards the ansers, because i like the head size and feel of the forging better. the i20 feel almost as good, however i cant get pass the tonker toy look .

I owned the Ansers and hated them. Feel is vague and more bulky then the i20's. They lasted a week in my bag. I20s are better I'm every way

I20's everyday and twice on Sunday. The i20's have less offset while are easily as forgiving. Feel awesome and are so good that Tour players are bagging them, even non-PING staffers. The same cant be said of the Ansers.

I20's are better to me. The ansers have a a clunky look at address. I thought the same thing when comparing the anser to the i15, anser looked more clunky

I have been playing the Titleist AP2's since they were first introduced (2008?) and had already bought a set of the 712's. Then I made the "mistake" of hitting the i20's. I ended up ordering a set with KBS Tour shafts. I have had them now several weeks. The AP2's got sold...thankfully they were like new and I didn't lose but maybe a hundred dollars on them.

To be fair, you wouldn't go wrong with either...the AP2's are a great set of irons...I simply found I liked the i20's a lot better. I was surprised...haven't played PING's since I had a set of Eye 2's way back when...but the i20's are a pretty impressive set.

I've only hit an Anser 7 iron a few times and wasn't really that impressed. Don't get me wrong...it was OK. Just not "wow" like I expected considering it was a forged PING iron.

That said I immediately liked the I20s and ended up buying them. IMO they are a great value with the stock CFS shaft and they perform as well or better than any current players CB iron. I've played TM MC and Mizzy MP-59 over the last few months for comparison purposes and I'm going to keep the I20s.

I may anger some, but all I seemed to hear was why doesn't Ping make a forged iron? They finally did. It's not what Ping does. Not that they can't or there is anything wrong with them. It's just that Ping has a long history of cast success. I love their clubs, some more than others. I'll bet there are way more G20 and I 20 sets sold than Ansers. I have heard some great comments about the Anser wedges.

I'm curious if you have a list besides Mark Wislon? No hate for the i20's either, I just bought myself a set and I am a huge fan!

I have used both extensively. First up, there is no discernible difference in offset as per above. Anser actually has less in the 3 iron and i20 a fraction less in short irons but anser short irons do not look to have much offset in use.

i20's have a thinner topline that makes the head looks smaller albeit it is almost identical size to the anser. Both are pretty easy to use and anser fractionally more forgiving and i20 fractionally easier to work

Anser has better feel. I see most have stated the reverse but I just don't see that, the i20 is more of a cast feel and anser is softer

Both are great irons and I could happily play either. In my view anyone saying there is a night and day difference between these has not spent long enough comparing like for like and also if you put the i20 alongside the i15 the diffrence is not as big as some make out. Great products.

had the same decision to make and went with the ansers over the i20's primarily because the i20's felt numb/dead to me. also didn't notice a huge difference (if any) in forgiveness on my mis-hits (primarily more towards the toe) on both clubs.

I think the $600 price difference is the biggest reason the i20s feel better than the anser

Not for me. Price doesn't matter. They just don't feel forged.

Forged vs cast is a lame argument. IMO the i20 feel better.

I own a set of Ansers and AP2 712.

My vote would be I20 or AP2's. Ansers are in the basement, I don't like them. Don't feel good, something about them. I've tried many times and even reshafted. I20's are sharp, i just went with AP2's and I have 710's as well and love the iron head.

Yeah. There are several i20's in the bag at the Honda Classic, including the lady LPGA player that won last week. Heck even Jesper Parnevik is playing them.
