Please Help, New York City Golf

Hi,

 

I am from the UK and travelling to NYC in October for a week, and was trying to get at least one round of golf if not two, as the better half has filled the week up with sightseeing and shopping..need to get out on the links before flying home if possible.

 

We are both of scratch handicaps and i am looking for suggestions of were to play.

 

I understand that Bethpage is difficult to get on, with resident queing overnight to get a tee-time?

 

any help recommendations would be of a great help...

Bethpage not only has the Black course, but the Red is also a very nice track.

If you want to travel into NJ, there are many nice public courses roughly 60min from NYC via car, RoyceBrook, Architects, Crystal Springs resort.

Bethpage Black is not as hard to get on as you might think. It's the early times that people seem to camp out for; if you don't mind teeing off around noon or later you can usually get on. Especially on a weekday and especially if you're playing as a single. (Most residents reserve tee times by phone I think, rather than camp out.) But if you miss out there's a good chance you can get on the Red course, which is a serious tournament caliber course in its own right.

You will get out as a single without much issue. You may need to kill some time between buying your green fee, and actually teeing off. If I were you, I would rent a Zip Car so you can drive out there and have a place to nap if you did end up with a noon tee time.

Black was virtually impossible to get on without camping out about 10 years ago. Not so much any more. I show up with a threesome at 4AM, and can tee off by 9 the latest. As a single you are good to go mate.

try long island national, harbor links, and i agree bethpage is worth it, even if you go on the red

In October especially during the week and after 11am you should not have a hard time getting out on the Black and it is a must play. Long Island National is awesome as well.

Long Island National is a bit of a hike from NYC (it's in Riverhead - 60 to 70 mi. East of NYC). Bethpage shouldn't be too bad in October. Harbor Links is also nice and a little closer to the city.

Head to Bethpage, 39 miles from my Manhattan apartment and the Red is a great course in its own right.
