Manassero or Cantlay

Shall we just ignore the rude troll? This thread went from being an interesting comparison to a total waste of time...

I was the one providing the facts. Everyone else was just saying Matteo is better because he was younger and already on tour...rolleyes.gif

Actually you were just providing some facts and omitting others, but never mind, this will be my last answer to your trolling. Ciao ciao

Well maybe Matteo will get a chance to watch Cantlay in the Masters. I thought he was playing, but I guess not.

Yes I agree......putforslice has no idea. Just give credit where credit is due. Not that hard.

Matteo has been immense thus far in his career. Has a good head on his shoulders which will take him very far.

Manassero is using the tranquillity of having two wins, the the exemption they bring, to work on the aspects he felt are not up to par to his expetations: mainly phisical strength and adjusting some parts of his swing to gain distance and precision. That's why his 2011 season was somehow not so successful. This year he's showing a steady trend of improvement, so he's optimistic about 2012

We'll have a better idea in 2014. By then Cantlay will have spent a year on the Nationwide Tour and if he does well, might make it onto the PGA Tour.
How do you figure that? Cauley is mostly on PGA and Cantlay is likely the better golfer. Also not sure why everyone assumes he will leave UCLA. I thought I remember him saying something about getting his degree. Did he ever publicly say he would leave early?

The debate is Manassero and Cantlay - or have you finally given up on that one?

Either way, with q - school gone, Cantlay is spending at least 1 year on the Nationwide Tour before he'll even get a chance to compete regularly with Manassero at the majors and WGC events. This is a simple fact that was recently announced.

I know from your posts that facts don't seem to figure to heavily in your thinking - but give it a go this time. Unless Cantlay joins the group of 5 or 6 golfers who have made it straight from an amateur career to the PGA Tour over the last 20 years then at best it will be 2014 before he is on the PGA Tour.

By then, Manassero will be the ripe old age 20 with (if history is anything to go by) a few more wins under his belt.

Did you even read my posts? You completely ignored my point about Cauley...who plays on the PGA and never went to Q school and only played a few Nationwide events. Young people get sponsor spots. Cantlay will be on the PGA just the same.
Yes he read your posts. His statement in bold is in reference to Bud Cauley. You're just making my head hurt now, please STOP!

For the record I have watched Cantlay play in person.
For the record me and Matteo are from the same golf club and I know him since he was 3 and trust me, if he goes back putting like when he was an amateur threads like this one would not even exists... As we saw, you can become #1 and win both money titles not being a long hitter
end of discussion there. Matteo's swing is as good as anyone's in the world and he seems to be able to control his emotions very well from what I've seen in tournaments.

My favorite is how Manassero can have success at events when he gets no money and thats a bad thing, but Cantlay gets exactly the same amount of cash Matteo got as an amateur.

I also got a good laugh at the fact that this guy would be willing to change his tune for Matteo if he won a major, yet Martin Kaymer who won a major, has won a bunch in Europe. and even took a WGC event in a field that is always pretty damn impressive in China, is only 27 is a lot closer to the World Golf Hall of Fame than anyone in their 20's and pretty much anyone in their 30's not named Tiger. But he backed into being number one, he didn't deserve it.

Manassero is going to have to find some length, but the dude is only 19, and probably hasn't lifted a weight in his life.

Cantlay looks good, but I take American junior golfers with a grain of salt at this point. They don't come out as talented as Phil and Tiger very often. They also don't have to live hard knocks like a Ben Crenshaw. It takes awhile for these guys to leave their momma's nipple. Uihlein hasn't been very good but he's going to be a lot better off when he's 25 for having played these euro events.

Kaymer has been nonexistent since his PGA win (which I why I say he did not deserve it because he did not deserve that win - DJ beat him) until yesterday with the circus shot which I appluad.

Cantlay is gonna prove you haters wrong, while Matteo can only watch on TV.
Cantlay is there because he lost to Kelly Kraft in last years U.S. Amateur. Matteo isn't there because he's the 63rd ranked golfer in the world. I'll take the latter.

Please don't feed the troll, this guy obviously is trying to provoke people, or he just doesn't know a lot about golf. Either way, not worth responding

No doubt the Italian is super talented, and has that Lexi, Rory quality; so rare. But Cantlay is so grounded, no FB account, no distractions. Talent's not overrated; practice is underrated. (sp)

You are saying that Bubba Watson is not practicing enough?

Obviously Matteo has done more at this point, he's developed earlier and chosen to go the route that he has. On pure potential I'll take Cantley. He's got all the tools including length. He's shown his ability to find the zone at times, he's just a young golfer who hasn't quite put everything together yet but has shown flashes of his ability on the big stage. It will probably be at least a couple of years before Cantlay is on the tour and that's a good thing. He shouldn't rush things and should continue to develop at his own pace. I think Matteo will probably find a lot of success on the Euro tour, I don't think his game is suited to most of the U.S. courses though. It's odd that there's so much Luke Donald hate going around and so much love for Matteo when he's like the poor man's Euro tour version of Donald. He's thought of as being really smooth and a good ball striker and accurate iron player. He is those things but he's nowhere in the neighborhood of Donald and he's not even as long as Donald who already has to overcome his length disadvantage with out of this world iron play on a weekly basis. This isn't something I can see Matteo overcoming.
