Cantlay is already a better player
Yeah that's what I've been saying the whole time, but the haters kept hatin.
I don't think anyone hates Cantlay. There are just a lot of people who think 2 European Tour wins and making the cut in multiple majors is a better indicator, at this stage of a future stellar golf career, relative to one good round in a PGA Tour event and what appears likely to be 2 cuts in majors.

I actually feel sorry for Cantlay at the moment. The way you have attached your nonsensical, nonfactual views to him has a lot of people firing back in favor of Manassero.

I think you have simply mistaken who the posters in favor of Manessero hate...I'll give you a clue...it's not Cantlay....

Yet who tends to be right? I have been labeled as some Euro hater, but I actually dislike most Americans as well. Tiger, Rory, Dustin J, Haas, Cantlay, Cauley, Mahan and Duval are about the only people I can stand to root for.

It must be such a sad life watching golf when you can't stand 95% of the players.

Anyway, I hope Cantlay makes the cut and does well. I alway enjoy seeing amateurs play well at Augusta. He's currently tied for low amateur. Matsuyama is a very good player (low amateur last year) and has won a pro event so it will be great to watch who comes out on top.

Not really. I just don't see the point in rooting for everyone. There are some people I am neutral on (ex Jason Day), but even the slightest thing can make me never root for you again (Keegan's habits, Charl cheating, Phil being arrogant, etc.)

You are giving interesting insights into your personality and why it is so infuriating and ultimately impossible to have a sensible discussion with you.

If someone does the slightest thing - in the context of golfwrx that means disagree with you - then you write them off forever as a hater.

it is ok to:

1) change your mind
2) respect someone even if you have different opinions
3) forgive someone

If you keep going on like this, you won't like anyone because nobody is perfect and everyone is bound to do something to upset you.

I am trying hard to chill a bit too. This thread and your performance in it has had me wound up like a top at times...but now I feel like I understand you a bit better and my feelings of frustration and contempt and gone....have a good evening.

Y'all are hilarious. Cantlay was even par at the 2011 US Open. Manassero was +7... Cantlay shot a back nine 30 in his 2nd round. He set a course record at a PGA Tour event.

Manassero is not close to doing what Cantlay did as an amateur on the PGA Tour and Manassero is already a pro.

Do you consider The Open and The Masters as part of the PGA Tour?

The Masters is definitely a PGA tour event. Not sure about the Open.

Cantlay gets an eagle on 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! partytime2.gif

Wow! Anyone know how long Cantlay is versus Matteo? I think Matteo's only issue is he needs to be longer. I think he is about 270 off the tee. Matteo should probably move to Orlando and get the right training. Hanson said moving his family to Orlando really helped his game. It could be Scottsdale, CA or TX but probably Orlando has the best facilities.

I think if Matteo is a little longer he is right there. He is still very young. 17?

He's 18, turning 19 soon.

He'll fill out over the next couple of years and spend some time in the gym.

He's averaging 274 yards this year - not really long enough to win on all courses. He'll never be long, but he can add 10 yards to that and it is no longer really an issue.

Good finish by Cantlay. As he said, he has college golf coming up this year so he won't really be competing as a pro until 2013 - and from what I understand that means Nationwide Tour and then PGA Tour in 2014 (at best).

Cantlay needs To learn to smile.... he looks like hes lost his dog out on the course...... in the Butler cabin for the presentation he looked like hed just found out his dog was dead....

good playing though
That's just his personality - very serious. He smiled when he got low am at US Open, but the dude has a flight to CA to catch and he had to sit in that cabin while Phil and slowpoke took their time and then sit through a 2 hole playoff.

He is a serious kid but give him time. It is a tough business. Faldo was the same way. Patrick is the real deal.

Maybe Phil could give him a lift back to So Cal on his jet.

Prospects are better for Manassero. Arguments about who has the better game aside, the simple fact(s) to consider are:

1) Manassero has wins already and s. The wins got him a card and the card gets him events which gets him another card. Job security seems to be there right now.

2) He has OWGR points. As it stands he is in all the WGCs and most of the Majors. That's at least 4 high profile events he gets in that Cantlay doesn't. He gets points and $ just for showing up at WGCs, so I don't expect that to change.

2) Every year Cantlay is in school, Matteo is another year more experienced.

But since the Master's comparisons were thrown around I believe Matteo finished higher at a younger age
