Great shape as of last week.

The course was in great shape The greens were hard and super slick - especially the first few holes. I started with double, triple, bogey and triple. That stretch included two FOUR PUTTS. I am a decent putter. Not a great putter, but decent. I have never had multiple four putts in a round. I can only remember having one or two four putts ever before Sunday.

After digging myself into a hole deeper than the French Broad River, I managed to string together 9 pars, an eagle, a birdie and three bogeys.

We finished at just over 5 hours. I expected a late afternoon round to be a bit quicker. Looks like the GPS system hasn't sped up play as much as I had hoped. At one point (hold no. 6) we had three groups, all foursomes, waiting on the tee box.

Playing Patriot Hills this week, hoping to find somewhere else early saturday before the vols game too.

Im playing Patriot Hills Wed. And Royal Oaks was in good shape last Wed. they have the rough grown up high at the moment

Have you played Patriot Hills before? Will be my first time out there. Still not sure where i'm playing saturday, but have a feeling it will end up being knoxville municipal

I have played it quite a few times, Dale and the staff are very nice and the course has been in great shape all season. I can do without the 3rd hole out there and be sure to miss a long drive out to the right on number 9. You will likely want to drive ahead and check out your tee shots on 8, 9, 11, and 16. The greens usually roll pretty quick and are typically soft and hold well.

Good to see some posts in here again. I've played Municipal and Dead Horse past two days. Both enjoyable rounds. Been loving the weather and it is supposed to warm up again next week.

Back out to Sevierville Golf Course for me on Wed. Looking like temps in the mid 70's too.

Played Bays Mountain. Greens were in really bad condition. Fun day and the course layout was interesting. But green and fairway conditions weren't very good.

I'm looking to get to River Islands sometime in the next few weeks. I've heard it is a cool layout.

You played at "The Rock" lol I live a half mile from there. It has really gone downhill. That place use to be a great place to play in the 70's up til the mid 80's.

The last time and only time we played there a few years ago was quite interesting, when on the first hole there a kid came out of the woods to check his coon trap. Fun and interesting day overall.

@Shankeddriver, Three Ridges is short for the most part. The uphill holes play long and all of the par 5s are reachable in 2 except for #7, I think. Usually in good shape.

I really want to get back out to Sevierville GC soon. That course (River) has owned me the two times I played it and I want some revenge.

Getting passed holes 2-5 on the front and 11-14 on the back without big numbers seems to be the way, I find best to score, on the River Course out there. I'm playing the Highlands Course tomorrow and it can definitely jump up and toss your round in the sewer as well lol, but it is really hard to find a better tract than those two courses.

[/quote] oh ok thanks man! I love east tn courses, almost all the courses here in west tn are flat as a pancake and aren't very challenging

what will this area be like in december? I am looking to head south(from illinois) for a few days to play some golf. I don't want to drive all the way to florida to play. I have been looking at mississippi, new orleans and Tennessee.

December is hit and miss in East Tn. Looks like we may have a harsh winter this year. Most courses I play in Sevierville or the surrounding area are 90 degrees or cart path only through the winter. We still play all year around, but some days I wish I had found my sanity before we tee off lol

Couldn't agree more with that quote. Can get some nice days and after it rains it takes a while for everything to get dryish again.

Yeah as mentioned a few posts above it is hit and miss here, it was 75 degrees, yes I said 75 degress, in November, yesterday here and today it's 42 degrees outside, and suppose to get some snow here in a few days

Nothing like playing Bent Creek with greens frozen like concrete and losing balls in the snow! I'm getting too old for this mountain winter golf!

This Tennessee winter weather is getting old. Freezing cold for a few days. Then it warms up to near 60......but it rains all damn day. I haven't played in a while. Only got a few rounds in after August. The itch is getting bad. I may have to get out and walk 9 tomorrow, even if the course is going to be a soupy mess.

I'm in the same boat, I haven't played in 4 weeks. Seems like it gets pretty nice while I am at work, then Wed. comes around and Mother Nature hates me lol

I got out and walked 9 at Willow. The driver and putter were on........everything else was less than stellar. Actually, less than remotely decent. I don't think I had a single GIR on a par four.

If the weather cooperates, I may venture out for 18 next weekend at River Island.

I just got the ok to swap days at work, so fortunately for me, it appears that I will be at Avalon tomorrow and work Wed. during the high of 37 and flurries.

Well played. The question is, will you play well?

This weekend is not looking particularly promising. High in the mid 40s. Too cold for me.

I hit them decent for taking 3 weeks off and playing in soupy fairways. I didn't expect to shoot lights by any means, so it turned out to be a good day.

I like Avalon. I worked there for a couple of years while going through school. I must say, however, that it is one of the worst draining courses in the area. I avoid it in the winter months.

Anyone have an opinion as to what is the best draining course in the area?

Three Ridges drains pretty well and Millstone in Morristown does quite well also. Sevierville Highlands does drain mediocre, but the River Course does not
