I just got back from a Vegas trip over the weekend. I played Boulder Creek (ok of you want to save a little bit of money, but nothing special) and Wolf Creek. Wolf Creek was a real fun and unique round. Easily worth the money, but the round took almost 6 hours. Very long day including drive time to and from the strip plus warm up.

I would have played any of the Paiute courses since everyone loves them, but they were doing maintenance on all courses in April.

Hi matt...what time did you tee off in Wolf Creek?

I am going for a 9am tee time and replay at 2,10pm..5 hours are not enough to complete a round there?

No chance...you should change your morning time to 8AM at a minimum...other benefit is you will get most of your first round in with no wind.

I've only been there once, but based on that experience, you would need more time. We teed off at 10:15 and finished at 4:00. It was also a Saturday FWIW. A course review site I frequent also has an average round listed at 5 to 5.5 hours. If you can move it up an hour or so you might as well. I found the staff to be very friendly, I'm sure they wouldn't mind the request as long as the calendar can accomodate.

Those are the course I was thinking to play:

1st day Coyote springs

2nd day Wolf Creek (play and replay)

3rd day Paiute Wolf Course

What do you think about it?

That is a great line up. Don't change anything.

If you are staying on the strip, consider Wynn Golf Club. Especially if you are staying at the Wynn/Encore hotel. Yes it's pricey but:

-Sub 4 hour round very realistic.
-Unbeatable service included in fee (Gatorade, water, private locker and shoe shining, bag tag, personal service, etc)
-Great course in a surreal environment (you know you are on the strip but your senses just don't believe it)
-No long pricey taxi drives to/from course

Minute for minute, might actually be a value to you in Vegas.

I've always wondered how nice the Wynn course actually is. I've payed to play Shadow Creek and I was pretty disappointed with the money I've spent so and the Wynn seems similar in that regard.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I checked the Wynn course on their web site...it looks beautiful but rates are too expensive for my budget...green fee rates start from $300 off season.

I get back in touch with Wolf Creek and they confirmed the rumors about the slow pace are true so they suggested to move my 9am tee time to 7,20am (only space still available).

Thing is I'll be driving to Mesquite from Vegas and I'll need to leave at least at 5 am. Otherwise I can look for an accommodation in Mesquite for the night before.

Another option...there are a good number of course in Mesquite. They looked nice from the road while I was driving to Wolf Creek. I know nothing about them, but If they are quality, you could play one of those in the morning then drive over to Wolf Creek after. But then you run the risk of not finishing Wolf Creek. Just another option.

It will be worth the hassle.....trust me. This course is all about the tee shot & getting your ball in play.

Fun thing to try on #13....get a fugly ball & try to hit your driver over the large boulder on the mountain on the right....if you go right over the boulder, your ball will end up on the green

Thanks for the suggestions...I've just booked a night in Mesquite...

So here is the plan:

Arriving in Vegas and stay there one night...

Next morning Coyote Springs and drive up to Mesquite..

Play Wolf Creek the next day (hopefully twice) and drive back to Vegas.

Stay in Vegas for the night, play Paiute Wolf, and drive back to LA...

I think that's the best I could do!! good.gif

  • 4 weeks later...

Just following up with the OP to see how the golf trip went? How was Coyote Springs? I'm playing 36 at Paiute starting with the Wolf course on Thursday 6/7. Was thinking about making the drive to Coyote Springs on Friday if it's worth it. If not I'll probably stay closer to the strip and play Rio Secca or Boulder Creek.

I've played pebble beach, spyglass, whistling straights, blackwolf run, french lick pete dye course, and over 11 courses that have been played on the pga tour. I believe the most fun course I've ever played was wolf creek I believe the course is awesome! If you hit the driver well than its easy to score I also believe. Have fun at wolf creek

Not sure of the condition, but it's a great golf course. Kind of reminds me of Paiute because it's in the middle of nowhere and it's usually windy, but I'd recommend going to play it if it's in good shape, which it should be.

This time of year the course will be in great shape. One of the best conditions in the area.
