Rant- Pacific North West golf weather 2010, 2011, 2012

I live and play golf in the pacific north west and I am completely fed up with the rain. Its July now and still we have rain. June was the worst month in history with record rainfalls. The golf business is down 40% in this area because of the weather. Its completely depressing to not be able to play on weekends because of the endless rain and bad weather. Yes I hear its supposed to clear up but the forecast can change on a dime. Just fed up with that rain !

Anyone else in the pacific north west feeling the same way ???

Yeah, I do. Although I've decided to just get over it and learn to play in the rain, got some decent rain gear with my last men's club winnings.

I played yesterday in the rain. I played last week in Virginia, 108* 100% humidity. I'll take rain over misery.

Do courses not drain up there and are closed? Unless that's the case what's keeping you from playing? Then again I might change my mind once my wife fully convinces me to move up there and I get to see and experience myself...

Yes it's been more rain and wind than usual but I'm trying not to complain. When you look at the rest of the country with severe storms, heat and fires, the North West has it pretty good!

Would you rather have courses dying from lack of rain, turning brown, and losing greens from the scorching heat? Been 100+ throughout the midwest with no rain in sight.

They're not closed, but most of the ones I play don't drain well and are a bit swampy.

Go play in the rain? I live in Oregon and have been doing that all "summer" it's not like it's pouring so it's fine. I actually prefer 60 degrees and cloudy then 85 and sunny

While the weather hasnt been ideal it hasnt been too bad. I live in Port Townsend,WA (about 100 miles west of Seattle) and we've had our fair share of rain but for god sakes, it's Washington, you better get used to not being fairweather in this state.LOL

Me too. Can't stand the hot sun beating on me and high temps drive me indoors.. I am actually happier and certainly more energetic when it's cool and gray.

If this drives you crazy, you can always move to SoCal and pay 5x for a home and 3x for greens fees

It's the NW and this kind of weather happens. I have been here almost 20 years and I would take this weather over anywhere else in the country. As others have stated, 65-70* with clouds and/or showers beats 90*+ with 90% humidity any day of the week for me.

Summer here in the Pacific Northwest, always starts after the 4th of July.

April and May were pretty nice. June sucked, but, this year is way better than last year. And, this weekend is looking very nice.

It is great to be in the PNW.

It is different than Texas. It is 52 with rain. Not 78 with rain. Up until middle of June most golf courses have little roll in the fairway, which I guess is why many PNW par 5's are under 500 yards. Everything is all carry for 7 or 8 months of the year. The only upside is the golf courses are not crowded when the weather is bad, which is the majority of the time.

Then the summer comes and just by the time you are playing well it is over. February through May is brutal. We're talking mud city. You have to learn to "pick" the ball if you want to score in the winter in Oregon.

Record rain fall? It was under 3 inches and Yes up a shade over a inch more (Seattle) then the ave. What was sad for me was the temp's as we were lucky to hit above the AVE temp no more then about 3 times.

In some ways it sucks and in others it's not so bad. Plus, it's like this much more then the past 3 years. Mid July to the 3 week of Aug. should be good I hat helps! ha
