Ping i20 Driver, which shaft is right for you?

What Ping i20 Driver shaft is right for me?

To answer that question let me begin with introducing myself.

I am a Dutch golfer, which at the moment of writing hasnt played more than 5 games over the last 5 years up to this spring. A few months ago I decided on taking up golf again. And man it's great to play again! I dont know why I ever stopped playing in the first place.

So I have played 6-7 games this year and 3 more rounds are coming in the next three days. I have dropped my hcp again. Starting at 33 it now dropped to 21.6, with a solid 87 strokes in my last game. This season I hope I will drop to hcp 16. Since I am a bit rusty I have not yet developed a very powerful swing. My irons are at 85, my driver at 95 mph. I know this to be true because I went to a golf store and hit balls for two hours in their simulator.

Going to the store was not only curiousity about my swing speed, I also need a few new sticks. I am currently playing some ok cleveland wedges, some absolutely fantastic Taylor Made RAC LT2's and... a 9.0 Cobra 370 SS Unlimited Driver with stock Aldila stiff 60gr and 16.0 Taylor Made Rescue mid hybrid with stock stiff 65 gr.

The old driver and hybrid must go. I have already tested a few sticks and the Ping i20 driver and hybrid feel really good.

I have already looked into similar discussions on shafts on the i20 driver, but these sticks are all are hit by hard hitters, swinging easily over 110 mph.

So my question remains: What shafts are recommended, stock as well as replacements, shafts for people like me. I have a deliberate swing at 95 mph, which might go up a bit over the coming months. I have no trouble getting enough lift with my current 9.0 Cobra. I prefer (or at least I am used to) lighter shafts.

Any advise is appreciated.

I purchased one with the stock project x 6.0 and hated the feel and it went to low. I had it digitally lofted to 11*. I put a tour ad dj 6s in.it and it is a lot better. It is a low spin and low launch head. If you already hit it low like me, request the hightest launch you can get and pick a high launch shaft.

My swing speed is about the same as yours. I use the Project Black 5.5, that is between a regular and a stiff. Seems to work well.

As I already anticipated my swing speed went up over the last weeks. I now comfortably swing 100-105 mph. Seems to feel like the swing I had years ago, so I guess this is the speed I would normally reach.

I have an average launch angle. Another go in the simulator proved my launch angle with the 9,5 TFC stiff was consistently between 12 and 14 degrees. Which I was told is perfect for my SS.

So the great news is that I have now ordered the i20 driver . 9,5 TFC stiff. I'll post some comments on club performance somewhere in a review section of this website.
