My custom LH Sunset Beach "Ocean Isle" has been started!

Recommended Posts

Well after about 2 years of toying around with the idea of getting a custom putter...I finally bit the bullet this month.

Many custom putter options/makers were out there, but I ended up going with Chris Jordan and Lamont of Sunset Beach.

I wanted a truly custom putter, and they've been great to work with.

I went with the "Ocean Isle" head which is similar to the typical Anser style.

Most of their putter heads are made of carbon steel to begin with...which was a definite plus for me.

So here are my specs:

LH Ocean Isle

Long neck

3* flat

4* loft (standard)

Standard milling (not the jagged deep stuff)

Brushed stainless polymer (protects the carbon, while giving it the upkeep of stainless, and still has soft feeling of carbon)

Tiffany Blue paintfill

one sigh tline on back of flange

and no idiotic stampings. :)

I can't wait to get it!

Lamont has been sending me pics of the putter as it's being built etc. Check em' out!!! :)

I just put that bad rascal in the curing oven to take care of the Beach Smoke finish that was applied. The initial request was for a polymer color that I had, but learned quickly that the product had gone solid since the last time I used it. Heat and time can do that to the best of liquids, LOL.
About five years ago, I shot my first white putter, long before TaylorMade made it overkill and flooded the market with white everything. At that time, white was a novelty and you didn't see it every day. I have a feeling that when this putter comes out of the heat, you might see the next trend in polymer finishes, color-wise. It really does look THAT good.
Thanks,
LaMont in AZ

i'll tell you, i love SSB. mine took longer than most because their plater was doing a large order for another customer. i ordered in feb and it came in april. that's longer than most take, and really not that long for the custom putter business. not only that, but they communicated with me the whole time. could not ask for more.

Hello fellow putter addicts! :)

Well I thought I'd give you a review of the putter. I've been using it exclusively. The Scotty Cameron has a new home via eBay.

I love this thing! The carbon steel is soft, but not so soft that everything feels "dead." Distance control hasn't been that much of a problem at all. I've made more clutch putts with this than with anything I've used previously. This goes to show that a truly customed putter can really help your game. The long neck has really minimized the "open face/closed face" swing of my stroke, which I've extremely thankful for.

The finish has held up perfectly. It's like the day it arrived. I've even had to putt on some sandy greens due to the closing of the golf season as courses rejuvinate their greens.

I feel super confident everytime I stand over a putt. I can't stress enough how important that is. About 1/2 a month ago, on a par three, with the green sloping heavily to the front from the back....I stood over a 5 foot slider. I'm left handed and the putt was a left to right breaker severely downhill.............did I mention SEVERLY downhill? Put it this way...either I made this putt for par, or it would literally run off the green down into the fairway. I lined up the putter, and trusted my line...made the stroke, and it went in...dead center. Now did the putter make the putt or did I? I did...but using a putter made to my specs gave me the confidence to actually hit it.

I can't recommend "Sunset Beach" enough. Chris Jordan and Lamont are class acts. Jordan and Lamont don't make mass produced putters....in other words...they actually WANT your business. Talking with both during the process was great. In the end you'll get a TOP of the line putter, built to YOUR specs, using high quality materials, in a process that makes it enjoyable. (PS...even their putter headcovers are out of this world)

thanks Chris and Lamont!

I was reading the SSB Section over at PutterTalk.com and I don't believe LaMont is still building the putters for SSB. From what I have gotten, so far, it was a split without any anger or betrayal or any of that juicy stuff. Just simple that LaMont wanted to move on and grow his own putter company and did not see that staying with SSB would allow him to create a "singular identity" as MannKrafted.
I have a call into him, now and will see if he is planning on posting the same information here as he did over there.
Until then, I wish both companies the best of success and look forward to LaMont's new line. Judging from the pictures of what he had dubbed the "TEN-12", he is planning on making the putters that a lot of guys have been asking for and nobody seemed to listen.

I can confirm this is accurate. Lamont and chris amicably and jointly decided it was time. Got the txt diredtly from lamont I think it was great for both parties while it lasted. Lamont appears to have more work than he could handle, and I think he always dreamed of having his own brand take off like it's now started to. Chris has great ideas and some really great designs. I know he'll end up on top here. Looking forward to seeing what both sides come up with in the future.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
