Any problems with cutting shaft
I recently got a nike unitized neo putter which I think gives me a serious improvment in distance control over my old two ball. The problem I have though is that I got a 35" (at cost) and want to take maybe an inch or an inch 1/2 off it. Do I need to add any weight or take anything else into consideration doing this. I am going to get a pro to do it so I can save the grip. I cant seem to find anything about the head weight for these or are they different because of the unitized shaft? THanks for any help

We've tried finding out the headweight. Nike says it's not availaible for public knowlage. Beats me. I personally like to know my head weights. LOL

Just remember that you are going to lose 2.5 SW points for every .5 inches taken off. Adding 2 grams weight to the head will increase you 1 SW point. So, you are losing 5 SW points if you remove 1 inch so you need to add 10 grams to the head to bring SW back to standard.

If he's always had to choke down to use this club, then cutting down the shaft won't change the swingweight that he feels in his hands. IOW, he may have already lost 5 swingweight points based on choking down, so the net change in SW would be nothing for him if he cuts it down.

IMHO, swingweight for putters is a non-issue. SW is measured from a specified distance from the end of the shaft. This distance, although standardized, is pretty much arbitrary since it doesn't truly reflect what YOU as an individual feels. That's because everybody grips the club differently. SW is a measure based on a fulcrum POINT. Most people grip the club with two hands and depending on where one holds the club along the shaft, how large one's hands are, and how much separation there is between the two hands, what one feels will be far different from what another person feels. I would go so far to say that some players don't even grip the club in the same place every time anyway. IOW, the SW changes for them on every stroke already.

Furthermore, humans are not fine-tuned machines that get thrown off because of some subtle change like swingweight. The one thing the human body can do readily is adapt to subtle changes, and most of the time we're so dense we don't even notice subtle changes. However, the extra, unnecessary inch on the shaft is not something most people can easily overcome if it hinders one's swing. It's definitely more important to get the shaft length correct than to try to maintain some arbitrary measure called swingweight.

Just to add a side note here. The club is not 1 piece. We were told by Nike after a bunch of phone calls and getting to the right person that it is 1 piece for about 5 to 8 inches above the head. True temper would not put their name on it if they didnt have part of the shaft made by them. It has the look of 1 piece but it is not. If anyone wants to do some more research to validate my statement that would be great.

I agree, we need to do some research on the unitized putters. I would gladly chip in a dollar towards the purchase & destruction of one of these putters. I say we all send choeppner a buck & have him cut the shaft down the middle so we can put this debate to rest. There is no way the putter is milled from 1 piece. the grip is 1 piece, the shaft is made from 1 piece of welded steel & the head is bonded to the shaft somehow. the word unitize means: to convert into a unit. i.e. not made from 1 piece.

It was one of the first questions asked. Here's a quote from an engineer.

The shaft is welded to the putter creating the unitized part. There would be no true way to make this from one billet. The effect is still the same as the weld joins the material on a molecular level.

I would consider the club "one piece" as you can't remove the shaft like other putters. Think of welding two pipes together to become one extended pipe. The joining of those two sections would "unitize" them. Maybe some people are still not clear on this and are thinking it's made from one billet.

What would happen if, after a four or five putt, one were to snap this putter across ones knee, or run it over with a cart?

Would you need you buy a whole new putter?

LOL, I guess you are **** out of luck. You could even say a bend in the shaft and your screwed. LOL

I was trying them out today and overall it's a nice concept but for me the putters are just too light. I can't see the heads being more than 330 and I like a shorter putter. Not for me.
