Can I be a long driver

I was just wondering

 

I average 122mph with a 45" driver. This is my normal swing I use on the course and not trying to knock the cover off it

 

I have always been long and never played with anyone who knocks it past me

 

So how hard would it be to get my swing speed to 140mph

I play golf but am not going to get any better than I am now so thought I would do something different, I'm 37 if that helps

Would still play golf, I assume its something you keep in your locker and just keep using your normal swing for golf. Then have your long drive swing for when you need it

Long drive is a totally different animal , basically if you want to do long drive your golf game is gonna suffer a little, but if you want to swing faster just train to swing faster.

Well went onto the range, tried to swing it loner and harder and cracked my driver, then got another from the shop and cracked that

Could be expensive this game

They have longer shafts, and special made faces.

Yes longer shafts and different faces that won't crack or cave in is what you need. Try a GEEK golf driver there awesome, I have a 6* with a 49" 2x flex shaft and murder the golf ball. A lot longer than my playing driver.

Just make sure to get a long drive head cuz the head is reinforced or you will keep cracking heads

Would you use that 6 deg 49" on the course or does it not go straight enough

I use it all the time , it's also fun hitting a wedge into every par four I play and hitting irons into par fives makes golf fun and I shoot lower scores. First time I use a long driver on the course I shot a 69

Those are sweet heads. I used Adams before that (9064LD and 9032LD). Both were great, but those Ares heads are stout. Had UST V2 LD3 that was tipped 1" and I had an HOF JS XX shaft straight in. UST kept ball flight a little lower while the HOF had a nice mid flight.

what do you mean stout? Do they just launch low?

I'm a bit like the OP. Just under 120 SS for me though. I'm consistently 117-118mph, with a 45" 60xx Aldila RIP shaft in my RFE 9.5. 172-173 BS, 2,400 spin, 295 Carry, 10.8 Launch (all averages). I'm 23 though and play professionally, so I have no trouble reaching for a little extra swing. I want to try a long drive driver backed up by a 13 degree three wood. I think this could work really well since my strong 3 carries 270 off the tee, and I hit it nice and straight.

I'm looking at a Ares 7 with a penley 80XXX from another member for $150. But I'm a newbie to anything long drive and don't know what I need. I could use some serious advice. Hoping to get a setup between $100 - $150 to see if this will work and maybe go with a $200-$400 setup later on if it shows some promise.

I signed with Bang Golf. Having a little equipment trouble right now. Broke two shafts today at the range after 20 hits. St539 5.5*, Bang-o-matic 6*, Bang Storm 5.5*. Bang fast 50"xx and HOF LT xxx are the shafts that snapped today. Snapped an Aldila rip60 last week with 6* intruder head. Not quite sure what's going on but if I don't fix this I won't be going to worlds next month.

As soon as I get my equipment issues straight I would be more than happy to upload a video. I just got my drivers back 3 days ago. Went to hit yesterday and snapped two shafts a half inch up from the hozzle. It has to be a bad installment right? 10 hits on a HOF shaft and it breaks?? I've never seen that...

You would think so...have never broke a shaft or caved a face so always wonder about that stuff. Pretty easy to learn to install your own shafts...I do though I did have someone snap a shaft on driver I was letting them try out.

Snap clean or kind of unravel a bit?

I felt the shafts snap in my downswing. Contact with the ball finished it off. Graphite twisting fibers..The only stock head I've had that holds up is the Nike vrs with a diamana white board 83gram x-stiff 47".
I've cracked and caved lots of stock heads but that's what happens with my swing speed. The R1 is good for about 25-50 hits and the distance is 30 yards more than any stock I've ever hit. I usually get 250-500 hits off my long driver heads. Not sure on the life with Bang heads yet due to the shaft problems. I'm calling them tomorrow to send me more.

Not sure if you would be interested, but have you checked out the ET2 LD from Penley? Its about 80 grams and 49 inches in length. http://www.penleysports.com/products/penley-et2-ld-shaft/
Maybe contact them directly and them know the issues you are experiencing. Might be what you need to take on the LD Finals? Best of luck to you-

Thanks, but I'm with Bang Golf through 2015. My problem was poor installation from my club builder. Bang shafts and heads are awesome.
