HELP!
Ok, for the past few months now, i have been able to hit my irons and wedges fine, high, slight draw. When it comes to woods, its pathetic. I cannot hit my heavenwood, launcher, or my r7. I will use my driver as an example. When i hit a ball with it, its a very low trajectory, and doesnt get much distance. I am talking around 150-170 carry with some roll then(should be carrying over 230 with good trajectory). ITs a low draw, and i'm mad because i cant hit my woods at all. With tryouts for golf team soon, i wont be able to try out if i countinue. So if you have suggestions for improving launch angle, or have links with some tips, help, etc... i'd appreciate it. I'm 5'11'' so its not because i'm too short or something. But if u can help me out, i'd appreciate it, or if you have some drills to practice proper parts of a good driver swing, because I NEED IT!

Like I used to admonish my son when he hit a bad shot..............YOU PICKED YOUR HEAD UP!! :fool:

I wonder how many young golfers this phrase has ruined for life. OOPS!! I picked my head up, I even hear guys telling themselves this after an errant shot. :D Keep that head down dummy? Gosh, maybe we should start a topic on all the silly advice that we've heard from the beginning in learning to play golf. :)

I think willy wants you to think of your body sorta like a "K" with your legs being the two bottom sections of the "K" and the top right section being your spine angle, except not that drastic, that might hurt. This would work better if the bottom sections were like a "X", but o well.

When you're just standing, your shoulders are parallel to the ground. With a driver you have the ball forward in your stance and you should pretty naturally tilt your spine away from the target (your right shoulder will be lower than your left). That's pretty much as easy as I can make it, just don't tilt too much. Look at some pro's hitting their drivers if you're still confused.

Sorry, keeping your weight and head back will also help you launch the ball higher. As long as you are swinging through to your target and maintaining your weight on your back side, you will hit the ball on the ascending part of the arch and launch it high with top draw spin. I'm no teacher, but this thought helps for me when I get in a funk.

A good drill to exagerate this feeling is hitting a driver on an uphill lie. Find a nice hill with a 25-35 degree slope and tee some balls up. Maintain your spine tilt and keep your shoulders parralell with the slope through the whole swing. This will force you to keep your weight back. I gaurantee you won't have a problem launching the ball higher.

What I was doing was getting ahead of the ball...my coach told me to keep my head behind the ball at all times...you should move the club towards the ball before your body and at impact you should only have your right heel slightly off the ground.

What I was doing was moving my weight forward before the club and I was way ahead of the ball and delofting the club too much!

No No No rab, just like wags and I tell you....YOU'VE GOT TO KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!!! :)

Be careful not to misinterpret this !!!!

As Tiger, John Jacobs (AKA Dr.Golf) and several other highly skilled golf coaches all say - the head SHALL NOT stay down during the backswing - this is one of the most common mistakes in golf by golfers who aspire to be golf coaches :fool:

The head has to be steady (but still will move a bit to the right during the take away), but NOT DOWN !

In fact you HAVE to be certain the chin is UP NOT DOWN.

For the chin to be up, the head has to be up !

If the head is down in the backswing, the left arm won't have enough room to pass under the chin and hence will collide with the chin if the head stays down !!!

LOL.....This was supposed to be a joke.....This wasn't given as legitimate advice..........How many times in my formative years did I hear this bogus statement......I was passing this bogus advice to one of our youths, we don't want them getting better faster than we did.......Now do we? :)

Low and drawing/hooking shots which have no air time...

Striking the irons well...

Sounds like your angle of attack is too steep with your woods...

A steep angle of attack will still produce fairly solid ball striking with the irons, unfortunately not to hot with the woods...

With your driver, take some easy swings keeping your weight back on your right leg, don't worry about pivoting through the shot so much...Hang back and focus on create a nice shallow angle of attack into the ball...

SWEEP...
