Best laser rangefinder for senior golfer?

Recommended Posts

I need some help, please. I'm wanting to get my 76 yr. old father a rangefinder for Christmas and am interested to see what you guys recommend for senior golfers?

Looking for something with a large readout, ease of use, something that will work well for someone who maybe doesn't have the steadiness of hand he used to , etc.

Doesn't have to be any thing fancy (but I realize that "pin seeker" type technology may be necessary).

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Bushnell Medalist.
[list]
[*]It's a little larger so it's easier to hold steady.
[*]
[*]The magnification is 4X which when compared to 6-10X makes it easier to steady on the target.
[*]
[*]It has pinseeker technology and uses a familiar, cheap, 9 volt battery.
[*]
[*]I can see the display with no issues, and my eyesight is getting worse by the minute!

I'd say none, due to 2 things... steadiness and sight. if he needs readers, it might be tough to see the display. if not, go w one w a red display. another option would be the golfbuddy voice gps- push button and the device tell you distance. the tech factor (gotta register, future software and/or mapping updates) might be a limitation tho... but that would also be something his son could help with

Bushnell makes a larger rangefinder that is like using a set of binoculars. The older models were labeled 1400 and 1600. The newest model is the Pro1M. You might be able to find one of the older models on e-bay. My son found one. The newest model is pricey. BTW, I qualify as a senior and use the Bushnell Tour Z6. It is very compact but I have learned to steady it and would not trade it for any other on the market.

I had few retina surgeries and have pretty bad eye site. I am very happy with Bushnell Pro M1 without the slope. I think the ad says you can see the cart girl two fairways over…not that I have tried. I like the large red lettering, very easy to read.

I like that fact that it is large so I can hold it steady.

If his course as reflectors on or in the pins, go with Laser Link Golf. They have units that will only pick up reflectors, so there is no need to worry about keeping his hand steady.

Some of the better courses use flagsticks with prisms on them. They reflect any laser that hits the prism making it easy to shoot the distance to the flag. Unfortunately, those of us playing the various public courses rarely see prisms, at least in my area.

The prisms are like those "reading glasses" from Walgreens -- they make it easier! Every flagsick should have reflectors.

A no brainer -- as laser continues to dominate GPS you will see more and more prisms on the flagsticks.

How much could it cost a course to have the reflectors? Seems like an inexpensive way to add value to your course!

In my area most of the upscale courses provide GPS units in the carts and thus don't provide the flagstick reflectors. Its the mid-level courses (without cart GPS) that are providing the reflectors. The low level courses don't provide anything beyond basic golf.

Leopold Gx4 with the slope feature. This thing's awesome. It will give you two numbers, one which is actual yardage and the other is what it would play according to the slope or how much uphill or downhill you are. It's extremely easy to shoot flags as well. It has the pin seeker function but I never have to use it because it's so easy to pick up the flags

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
