So I torched my Cleveland Classic but...

Ok with my satin Cleveland Classic 4.5 head and no butane torch lying around, I decided to throw it in the oven and see how it would turn out. After about an hour I noticed a light champagne color, but I was too curious to see what another 45 minutes would do.

When I pulled it out of the oven, I grabbed some tin foil, which in retrospectre wasn't a great idea. Now along with the light bronze/goldish color, are some black burned foil spots. Is there any way to remove the burned spots without messing with the finish. I'd prefer not to have to give it a naval jelly bath and start again.

What about light pressure with super fine steel wool?

And to be perfectly honest with you, I think the thing looks cool as is, sans Paint! And i don't know what color would look good with that brass color it has now. Maybe black? maybe a red? I don't know it's hard to visualize. Also, my son has a cleveland classic right now but maybe getting a replacement and if so, I may do this with his. What temp did you have that oven at?

I tried steel wool it didn't do much of anything. I'll pop in it some boiling water later tonight and see how it goes.
And I just preheated the oven to 550, just pulled the number out of my a**. Wasn't sure whether or not to leave the putter on the bare metal rack so I decided to throw it on some foil. Just leave it in there for however long. Easy as pie. Getting it out was the tricky part.
Curious how long it would take to get some blue and purple hues... hmmmm

Maybe a little Bar Keepers friend. It has some fine grit to it and shouldn't wear off the finish.. Good luck..

Does naval jelly remove a torched or oxidized finish?

A metallic color (i.e. blue) goes well with a bronze finish.
