Golfbuddy rain problem

My one month old GolfBuddy Voice gps was being worn on my cap (as depicted on their web site) when we experienced a brief rain shower. It never worked after that and GolfBuddy refuses to replace.

 

Buyer beware. Golf gps should survive a brief rain!

That really sucks. I thought gps devices designed for golf were at the very least water resistant. (Unless a brief rain is a severe soaking...?)

 

Did you try to dry it out in a bag of rice? I've had a few phones come back to life using that trick.

I have a golf buddy voice. Yet to use it but that the moisture aspect is one area that does concern me. If anything the lack of moisture resistance will be the downfall of the product.
Almost has me rethinking my purchase.

Nothing is water proof unless told it is and most electronic devices are not. I dont know any places that warranty a electronic device if you get it wet!

I keep my Skycaddie out of the rain, even a brief shower or sprinkle. Only GPS that i heard advertise as waterproof is Golfligix GP8 model and in the commercial showed you could throw it in a puddle and it would work.

You could always keep in a plastic ziplock bag for rain to protect or by a waterproof case.

I can add to this trick. Throw it in the bag of rice and let it sit in your freezer overnight. This trick has worked on some cell phones that have gotten wet.

+1 on the plastic bag. I keep my smartphone in one on wet days.

The entire garmin series s1, s3, g3, g5, g6 is waterproof. Many other golf gps are minimally rain/water resistant. Even the other golf buddy products are water resistant. It seems like it's a clear deficiency in the golf buddy voice.

OP I would try and escalate the issue to someone of higher authority at Golf Buddy. Given their other products are water resistant, that unless the Voice model came with a warning about any rain exposure, I'd appeal to them that the product should have come with a precautionary warning in the documentation.

OP take the battery out and try the rice idea as others suggest. Good luck!

Thanks, but I had sent it in. I've still got an original Neo which has been through much rain without problems. I was replacing it becuse the lens got cracked in luggage, but it still works! Hand helds are designed for outdoor elements--NOT THE VOICE.

Put it in a rice bag and see if it helps. Even if not, you can just send it back to Golfbuddy for an unknown defect. You can leave out the unnecessary "rain" part as you've mentioned it was just light dropplings and you didn't intend to test-soak it anyway.

Might have the same thing in it like iPhones have, A little white strip that turns pink when exposed to moisture. If its pink your screwed...

Thanks for the heads up, OP. I received a GB Voice for Christmas and it's a pretty sweet little GPS. I've only been able to use it once (snow finally melted), but was impressed with it and it seemed very accurate. I will definitely remember to protect it if it starts to rain a bit because I had placed mine on my hat as well. I wonder if it would be overly distracting to put it face down on your bill (with the screen under the bill).
