How to get a Scotty 009 brand new ?

Thanks for the help.

Don't fancy the seaside website - it's in japanese ;)

Will try some of the other sites - a shame you can't get a totally custom 009 putter - this kind of stinks when the price is above the 2K mark :) (cool)

Claus

The thing to do is first to check out what spec you want - head finish and weight, hosel design, graphite or steel shaft, whatever type of stamps etc - and ask Jim Butler or Rand Pallis to look out for one for you. You can do a search for 009 on the Registry and browse those for ideas.

If it is something fairly pimped out, chances are Seaside is your best bet. Email Seaside directly, and you will get a reply in English. Make it clear and simple what you want - if you see a putter on their site, they may well have another similar one not yet listed for sale. Or if not, they may well email you back in a week or two with one.

Thanks :)

The putter I'm looking for is pretty basic:

1. 009 and stainless steel

2. Newport 2 head and plumbers neck

3. 35" steel shaft

4. 355 gram headweight

5. Sightline - not dot

6. BRAND NEW _ NEVER USED !!!!!!

Claus,

1. 009 is a carbon steel putter or GSS, so it's possible. GSS will start at $5,200, carbon steel around $2,300 to $2,500 for a basic model.

2. There is no such thing as a Newport 2 009. The "009" describes the head shape, and the sole is what I would describe an a Newport 2 shaped sole.

3. No problem

4. You can get one listed as 350 grams, but there is a tolerance of +/- 2 or 3 grams. Mine is 353 grams according to the digital scale at my local shop. You probably can't get a 355 gram head, and I'm guessing the 5 grams won't make much of a difference. On a side note, please remember that SC has length to weight ratios that he feels are optimal. For 350 gram heads, he typically recommends a 33" or 34" shaft because a 35" shaft will make the swingweight too heavy and prohibit you from properly releasing the putter through impact.

5. No problem

6. Definitely no problem.

Here's what you should do: Call or email Jim or Jeff Butler at Tablerock Golf (www.tablerock.com) and let them know exactly what you're looking for. They receive shipments periodically and you have a good shot of getting what you want because that's a basic 009 setup. Now is a great time because the PGA Show is just around the corner and Tablerock has booth at the show with a bunch of putters for sale. Therefore, their inventory will be at a high point in the coming days and weeks.

I've dealt with Jim and Jeff and they are great. I've also dealt with Rand at Art of Putters, but he took some time off and is just getting back in the swing of things on selling tour putters. Greg Greene (www.greeneputters.com) also has a nice inventory and is great to work with. I've never dealt with Dalton at What the Pros Play, but I've heard good things.

Good luck!

I've wondered this - I know that SC has the ratios that he feels are optimal, but will the custom shop go outside these ranges if you ask? If you specifically ask them to reshaft your 350g head at a 35.25" finished length, will they do it? I've toyed with getting a 009, but the above specs are what I generally play my putters at. I would be a shame to have to do it outside the shop and mess up the potential value down the road.

Any thoughts?

I'm not 100% sure whether or not the Studio would accommodate your request as they have guidelines, but here's what I would do:

Take the putter to a local clubmaker you trust and have him/her pull the original shaft. Install a new shaft and grip at your desired length. If you ever decide to sell the putter, re-install the original shaft and you have an all original putter. It's done all the time and it doesn't compromise any COA or value as long as the original shaft is re-installed.

I did this with my 009. I bought it at 34" but prefer a 33.5" length, so I had a new shaft installed. The original one with the tour shaftband is in my closet just in case I ever decide to trade up to a GSS.

They would definitely adjust at your desire lenght/loft/lie if you send it to them and requested it. Its on the option list now.

Cool. But keep in mind that changing the shaft is a very minor job in the grand scheme of things. Shipping to and from the Studio will be quite expensive, especially for the insurance of $2,500 each way. Given the minimum order of $45 through the Studio and shipping costs, it would cost $100 or so just to change the length. IMO it's not worth it, especially if you have a local shop you can trust. They should be able to do it for about $20 plus the cost of a new grip. And you don't have to wait 2 - 3 weeks.

JAT!

Jeez, Claus - You are something 'special' - NOW LISTEN TO WHAT THE COLLECTORS HERE TELLS YOU!!

Sorry for shouting, but jeez, man...yada yada yada

I might have some kind of a hearing problem - but I thought I could order a custom made Scotty when I started this thread. I now realize I can't.

If my mumbling irritates you then please ignore this thread instead of mumbling along with me (cool) :) :)

I'm trying to remember if I have ever seen a SS 009. I don't think I have ever heard of one. You can't do any of the special finishes on a SS head really so that's why they are made of Carbon Steel. Every one I have ever seen for sale has been carbon steel.

-CHRIS-

You can do special finishes on SS - it's just expensive and difficult.

I know they can do it at Bettinardi :) - so why not Cameron :) (cool)

Hey George,

Have you ever seen a SS 009? I'm going thru the registry and not finding anything but CS. If I remember correctly they are all Carbon Steel but I am trying to prove myself wrong. LOL

-CHRIS-

Cant remember if I have seen one. Thought Alberto may have one...his might be the only one out there.

I think this young man looking for a stainless 009 with a newport 2 head- Might like a putter like this-the blockier head.

WOW - this looks great :) :)

Claus,

Get over yourself and ring the good folks at Ping for an Anser 2.

You know it makes sense.

I have a LOT of respect for Ping putters (and also Bettinardi for that matter) but right now I'm looking for a Scotty 009 putter.

I would like to have a small tiny collection of great Anser style putters - all the great makers of putters TP Mills, Bettinardi, Scotty Cameron, Guerin Rife, Slighter, YES! (Callie Forged), Ping, Gauge Design etc.

Not a big collection, but a small hot collection of classic designed Anser putters - and also some of the new guys on the block (i.e. YES! Callie Forged).

Claus,

If you find a pre-owned 009 that fits your wishes (other than being used), you can have it refinished at Cameron. Comes back as good as new.

I've owned both the 009 and the GSS NP2 "thin face"....I prefer the feel of the "thin face" over the 009. Both great putters. There is something confidence inspiring about the wider, flat topline of the 009.

The 009 is Scotty's take on the flat sole Dalehead of past.

I have seen some great 009s at Table Rock. There was a tremendous 009 Brushed Oil Can that had a Sante Fe neck that I would love to see in person. Of course I saw a great tour Circa #2 in 3X Oil Can that is more my preference! Table Rock always has great putters and have a direct channel to Scotty. At the very least, call Table Rock and tell them what you want. Also, Rand Pallis or AOP is another great source to Cameron putters with his connection with Scotty. Both Jim Butler and Rand Pallis are personal friends of Scottys.

Thansk for the advice :)

Unfortunately I live in Denmark, Europe and Scotty will only do refinishing jobs for customers in the USA :)

Not true. I live in the UK and have had a bunch of putters done already this year, with a few more due back in a week or two.

And the better news is that the UK Customs do not charge any duty on inbound packages from the Shop. And it is fast shipping with FedEx.

There used to be an issue with non-US credit cards and the payment authorisation system, but if you use Amex, you should be fine. Try to place an order online with your Amex and if you get an order number, you are in business.

Thanks I'll try that :) ;)

i dont think there is an SS 009 except a G$$ :D
yes, you can order a brand new one with the "scotty stampings" of your choice their location on the head. you cant order your "own" custom finish besides what scotty already does for an 009 carbon steel (black pearl, 3x black, 3x oil can, pro platinum, charcoal mist, and brushed(black, pro platinum, oil can, charcoal, black pearl) finishes. you can order with you own spec (loft, length, lie, scotty grip).
