What do you guys think? The images look amazing. Has so much detail like sunlight reflecting off the water and showing reflections. The tree renderings are supposed to be accurate to the course. I hate using 2D overhead maps and find them more time consuming then helpful. This 3D rendering they built seems like I would never need a yardage book.

 

I'm a Droid user now, and they have no plans to port this at the moment. Thinking about purchasing an old iPod touch for this app. Hmmm.

Awesome, let me know how it goes. I read a couple people switching from Golfshot in favor of this app. It came out in December, so it's still new and would like as much feedback as possible before I go out and buy an iPod touch.

The accuracy won't be the best, but it'll sure look Purdy.

Well, the app itself has an offline feature. Was hoping someone would be able to test that as well. You're right though, I don't know how accurate that would be so point taken.

This product topic kind of got buried.

Has anybody put this app thru its paces?

I have the free version that gives you 3 holes per course.

Graphics look good and seems to be a great program.

Just curious if anybody in a warmer climate has been able to test it.

I am testing this app in the 1 month trial period, the interface is good and I like the scoring features etc, it also has all golf courses in my region that I would potentially play.

Accuracy however is at best average, while it seems to work fine from 100 yds out, everything within a 100 yds can be up to 15 yds off I found. I tested this on two different courses and at least on 3 holes, the short distances were way off. I will continue testing it, but may need to look for something else.

In the end I may want a laser range finder as you only need the exact distance, when you are within 150 yds anyways, plus you can check all targets on the driving range to practice the all important full and half wedge distances.

I have it and the accuracy isn't very good. I use it mostly for watching golf on TV. Makes it really interesting moving along a course while watching. Great companion app. For that. Prefer my SkyCaddie SGX over any iPhone apps.

I downloaded the free app last night and it looks quite nice, but am not sure about the accuracy. I have an iPad, rather than an iPhone so it's a bit large to be mounting on the golf trolley. I would be using a golf buddy GPS instead.

However, it looks like it would be good to look at courses before deciding whether or not to play them, or to remind you of courses you may have played whilst on holiday.

A question though. The distances are referred to as 'Yardages'. I am assuming this is an American app so the distances are in yards. I don't see anywhere to change the distance units to metres for Europe. Anyone know if this is possible and how to do it?

Another thought having had a play with this app. It is quite good to look back on courses played whilst on vacation. I was looking at the Heathland and the Links courses at Alcaidesa, in Spain, about 17km NE of Gibraltar. The scenery on these courses, particularly the Links Course is quite spectacular. However, both courses are hilly, especially the Heathland course. There is a spectacular height difference between the Tee and the Fairway on the 10th hole and a gawd awful climb back up to level after the 11th hole. The 3D view doesn't really show these terrain height differences unfortunately. The satellite view does give some hints looking at the cart paths though.

Yes. From the start page.....scroll down, Select "account & Settings", select "units", select "Metric system"

My friend just used it on The Red at Bethpage and found it to be very good. It was only 2 yards different from my other friend's Garmin Approach. FYI, still free for this week but only for the iPhone [iOS]. Get it now.

I just downloaded and checked out a few local courses. That's what a golf GPS should look like. Satellite/3D/2D imagery options are fantastic. I've had the G6 for 2 years now and cannot stand their maps. At least once a year I play a course for the first time that Garmin doesn't have mapped right and I hit into water I didn't know was there from the tee. I also had the Upro and loved the imagery. I really liked the fact I could pick out the exact tree I wanted to go over to cut a dog leg, for example.

Seems like there are trade offs for every device. While I liked the Upro, I hated the synch process. I like the fact there is no need to synch regularly with the Garmin and I like the moveable pin and distance accuracy but I despise the maps. I might try the SC Touch when released but maybe not due to price. I'm pretty sure I paid $250 for my Garmin 2 years ago and it seems like most new ones now are $400.

I recommend it, especially since it was free.
Checked yardages against a playing partners rangefinder and the app was within a yard.

I have it on my phone and just turned it on a few times for fun.

Two of my league mates have it (based on my group email, thanks to this thread) and both of them LOVE it. The one who I usually play with likes it better than his old phone gps app (golflogic), and he swears the battery usage is far less as well.

I'm a laser guy so I only have it as a backup, but from crawling around the app while sitting on my sofa, it looks like a great way to preview a new course, or relive a round in your head.

It's the best money I never spent.

This app is still free - incredible. Can't be for too much longer though.
