TPC Sawgrass & St. Augustine

I am traveling the first full week of March from Knoxville,TN and flying into Orlando,FL for a week to play golf. A friend of mine and myself are playing TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course while we are down there but we were wondering where the best deals on a hotel room is between Orlando and St. Augustine Area? And also was wanting some feed back on public golf courses either in the St. Augustine area or Orlando area the best ones to play while we are there if anyone has played any and recommend any good ones that were worth the money please? Thank you in advance

Stay and play at World Golf Village north of St Augustine. Hotel, PGA tour stop and 2 great courses in King & Bear and Slammer & Squire. Not too far from TPC if you take 210 east to a1a.

Other than WGV, St. Augustine doesn't really have a lot of courses, which is odd now that I think about it. But fear not, South of Jacksonville and North of Orlando both offer plenty. South of Jax look at St. Johns G&CC, South Hampton, and the WGC courses. North East of Orlando look at Red Tail, Legacy Club at Alaqua, Maybe Victoria Hills and Deltona depending on conditions (they can be hit or miss).

Magnolia at Disney is probably worth a look, or another course over there.

Take a look at staying in Palm Coast where you can play the Ocean Course (Nicklaus) and Conservatory (Watson).

Ohh, yeah I forgot about those. I'd pick either/both over the WGV to be honest. Top notch courses there .

[/quote] All of those courses are pretty good, don't forget Grand Cypress in orlando I just played it last week and it is a nice track.

I played there a couple of years ago. The conditions were excellent and I thought the layout was just ok. Not a bad experience but not what I was expecting as I had found great reviews on here at the time.

Another course a little south of Jax is Fleming Island. Now that course I really enjoyed. Great variety of holes and probably easier on the wallet too. Designed by Bobby Weed who contributed on another course I love, Hilton Head National.

if you want to come up north past st augustine towards jacksonville in orange park, you can play fleming island (as suggested), eagle harbor or the country club of orange park.....there's also the champions club at julington creek. cimmarone, st johns golf & country club, south hampton, king & the bear or slammer & squire both at at the world golf village (all as suggested) are in the st. augustine/st johns county area. between your drive from st augustine to orlando, you may not want to pass up the 2 tracks at lpga international in daytona beach. the hammock beach courses in palm coast are truly a steal at the moment on golfnow.com. a lot of good places to choose from

There used to be a fun cheaper course there called Ponce de Leon, but it was closed and I'm pretty sure condos were built on the waterfront property instead. I still have a logo golf ball in the case right behind me here.

never got developed & is overgrown with weeds to this day....waste of a good course

I recomend Hammock Resort courses in Palm Coast, Ocean Course is great and Conservitory is very nice as well. As far as WGV, I prefer and play Slammer & Squire quite frequently. Have fun and let us know where you end up playing!
