only correct answer here is what works best for you, because there are pros/cons for each (a quick search on this forum will help you)....I just went thru this analysis for a pair of junior golfers in the house

I would caution you on what you read in this forum because user bias is obviously based on what they purchased, however, this can be viewed as a good thing because you get to hear whats working for them

ended up with garmin gps watches for the convenience (could not justify taking rangefinder out of bag, sighting/lasering target, returning it to bag, most importantly not leaving it somewhere! 50/60 times per round), seems like after the novelty wears off, the rangefinders tend to stay in the bag

after one week (yeah..its early/novelty has not worn off), the comments im getting from them are: 1) speeds up their round (not looking for yardage markers/pacing off distances) 2) hitting alot more greens, and 3) shorter birdie putts...BUT they definitely do not know distance to hazards off the tee on par4/5's

another problem: one of the holes of their home course (high school team) the yardage is off (par 3, 225 yards, watch says 205), emailed garmin, they sent a canned response email 2 days later saying they notified the golf dept, should be handled by the next mapping update (done each quarter/March 30 in this case)...if i remember, I will let you know if they correct the issue at the end of march

Thanks for the reply. I like the watch idea. A friend of my says get the golfbuddy if you want basic and easy.
I can get a good deal on the Callaway upro mx+, it is cheaper than the golf buddy or neo+ watch. I do not want to over think the situation, watch might be my best fit, but I get more from the upro. Anyway i am still looking at options, but thanks again for your imput, I appreciate it.

I'm not a fan of the Callaway mx+. The screen size is too small and I hate the going to sleep problem and then having to wake it up again each time I pull it out to use. I have a Garmin Approach G5 and I really like it. I also don't like to wear a watch when I'm playing.

Now that is a LOT of measuring......

swag: # of times looking at the watch during an average round...less you think?

the convenience of having constant updates (you can see the yards change as you walk) you realize you glance at the yardage alot more than you would use a rangefinder, because the info is a turn of the wrist away (while holding a club with your golf grip...ie multi-tasking), rather than peering thru a viewfinder looking for a target (without a club in your hand)

I own Sky Caddie SGX, Garmin G6, Bushnell Pro 1M, and Z6. Over the years, I lost depth perception so I need all the help I can get. I carry Bushnell Z6 and Garmin G6 around purely for its size. I use the Z6 more than the G6. G6 helps with blind hazards, course layout, lay up shots, and I can better plan my shots.

As for the watch, I can stand wearing watch or ring while golfing.

If I HAD to choose one over the other, I would go with G6. I like knowing how far I need to carry the ball over blind hazards, layups and to better plan my shots.

I just bought a upro mx+, but haven't used it yet. I do have a neo+, or half of one (buddy split the cost because we play together so much) and think it is almost perfect. You can easily adjust the course, if the preloaded info isn't correct. And the battery will last 10+ rounds without any issue, I've read about the upro's battery life/sleep situation, but couldn't resist the low price. I did almost buy a second neo+ so I didn't have to share, that is how much I like it.

I've tried a couple iPhone apps, but they never compared to the ease of a dedicated unit.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
