Shaft Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone...

I am looking to get the new 913d3 driver and am deciding which shaft to get with it. I am a collegiate golfer so with discounts price of the shaft really isnt an issue. With that being said I am open to any suggestion. Here is a little bit about my current setup and flight characteristics. On a side note I don't get to try the shaft before ordering.

Titleist 910d2 9.5 Project X 7C3 plays around 45.5" or so. Carry I would say is in the 275-280 range, my SS is right around 115-120 on average with it and my ball flight tends to be slightly higher than I would prefer it to be. I am in the 13-14 launch angle range with the setting on A1. My ball tends to be either a high slight draw down the right side or a low snap hook.

I am guess I should order an X flex this time around as I am a much stronger and better golfer than I was when I got my 910 with the stiff shaft.

I am looking for something that doesn't feel altogether boardy but can handle my swing without hindering power and control.

Some thoughts (Tell me what you think)

Motore Speeder 7.2 Tour Spec X Flex

Rombax Type X 75 X Flex

Tour AD-DI 7 X Flex

Kiyoshi Black 75 X Flex

Project X Tour Issue 7A3

Devotion 7 X Flex

Give me some feedback.. Thanks - George

My recommendation is to get properly fitted and I am not talking by some pro at a course or even a retail store like Golf Galaxy, Golf Smith, etc. They don't have a good selection of shafts and really not the experience to properly fit a high swing speed player. There are so many shaft options out there it is mind boggling and expensive to start trying out various shafts. Don't know where you live but in the Chicago area there are two places I would recommend to get fitted. Being a collegiate golfer, they might help you out at a reduced rate or even free. One is Club Champion who has three location in Chicago, one in Philadelphia and a new one in Dallas, I think. The other is one of the Taylormade performance labs that are in various areas of the country.
These two places have people with the knowledge and a wide selction of shafts that they can fit you with and really zero in on what works.
You mention your swing speed and launch angle but not ball spin rate. I would bet it is 3500+ rpm and you don't get much roll on your drives. Also bet you hit the low hook when you go after it and open your shoulders too soon on the transition.
The Devotion 7 X is a great low spinning shaft by the way.

Good luck

That yardage is very low for that amount of swingspeed. Get a proper fit to maximize your yardage and keep you in the FW. You are saying your spin is in the 3,000 range. Where is that # coming from? What kind of LM? That is also pretty high for your SS. If all of your #'s are coming from a simulater don't even bother with them. They are not accurate especially for spin.

SS is 115 on average and can get into 125 but the ability to control a ball greatly diminishes.I recently had a 910d3 with UST V2 76x and the Club was great less than 3000rpms and long enough. I got suckered into getting the 913d3 hear and used the same shaft but the feeling and distance was reduced.Went back to take my 910d3 had of of consignment and s*** out of luck. The itch bit and and couldn't sleep until I had the right shaft... many sleepless nights because I could only buy one shaft and it better be the one! Well after lengthy web searches I have found the Holy grail of all Shafts. I have had motore, diamana, speeder, etc. and this is the one. I currently have it in the 913D3 9.5 degrees of loft with D4 setting and it is a bomber!!!!

Graphite Design introduces the new 2012 Tour AD Z9003 series shaft. It is an improved version of the original 9003 model designed for the aggressive swingers. The Z series has the characteristics as the 9003, which features lighter weight and the technological innovation of today. A very tight and stable shaft with the ability to handle fast and strong swingers without any loss of power transfer on impact, but with a much lower torque. The Z series has been created after years of testing and input by Japan Tour players that were using the 9003 series shaftsThe Z series offers an even lighter version at 66grams and a heavier side at 78 grams. It is made to produce optimal trajectory to the low handicap to pro player. The Type6 is the lighter version with 3.3 tourque and the Type7 is the heavier version with a low 2.8 torque for the aggressive swing style.

Type6 available in S/R, R and S flex.Type7 in S and X flex

glabarr-
I'm also a collegiate player that once had a similar problem. My setup was 910 d2 8.5 with the the project x 7c3 6.0. I'd hit 300 yard drives with negative one yard roll. No kidding, I'd often often back them up in fairways that really weren't that soft. I reshafted my 910 with a motore f1 75x. It's not in the corral of super- premium brand new shafts, but it's really done the trick. Spin came way down, launch came down a bit, and now my ball flight is more consistent. I would definitely recommend the shaft.
