What's the consensus on where to send a Cameron for refinishing?

Recommended Posts

I have a SC Oilcan Newport that I recently purchased and I want to have refinished and remilled before my golf trip to FL in 6 weeks.

1. Send it to SC - most expensive and longest turnaround time, but I do get a new original shaft, shaftband, grip and headcover for my troubles;

2. Bos Golf - a little less pricey and quicker turnaround time but then I still have to reshaft and regrip;

3. Continental Golf - best price, quick turnaround, on the East Coast (same as me) which will cut down on the transit time considerably;

Who does the best re-milling work? Best refinishing work?

Thanks!

Send her to BOS, you won't be disappointed. I would save the coin from sending to them vs the custom shop for beer after the round or gambling or a nice meal, etc.

I concur. It's not even about the money. If they charged more, I'd still pay. Their work is just that good. Best value around.

You won't have it back from the CS in 6 weeks. I'm in San Diego and just got mine back.....8 weeks later.

I believe the SC website says 50 days + shipping. You can give them a call to see if that's still accurate. I sent mine in right after Thanksgiving so there may have been some holiday delays. I can also attest to BOS for their finishes, they are as good as anyone. The used to do all black oxide work for CS. I've only sent mint putters to them however for just a change in the finish. Never had them remove dings, dents or re-milling work.

Never used Continental but the other two do great work with the CS being the slower of the two.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I say game it as is and refinish it after. I'd hate to be worrying about whether or not my putter will make it back on time.

My vote is for SC. It might have the highest cost of the options, but you get the most for it IMO in the free shaft, free original grip and original headcover, or the ability to order up on some cooler grips and covers. Just my opinion though.

By the way, that's a Gun Blue Newport, not an Oil Can. So if you're looking for an Oil Can finish, BOS is probably your best bet as SC won't change the finish, unless you go to Oil Can Mist, which isn't quite the same and is a $50 upcharge.
