E6 vs E7 vs NXT Tour vs Velocity?

Landy

Recommended Posts

Has anyone one played all these? I play the E6 but I have heard the E7 is longer and also great things about the NXT Tour.

When I did the on-line fitting on the Titilest sight the NXT and the Velocity came out but I havent played them.

Looking for a low spin long off the tee and irons. Dont need added spin. Budget not an issue, I just dont swing hard enough to use the Pro V1 or the 330s.

Thank you

e6 feels/sounds pretty soft, flies high, doesn't spin much but isn't totally unmanageable around the green

e7 and Velocity are both hard as a rock, don't spin at all and are impossible to control around the green

NXT Tour is an in-betweener. Probably spins a bit more than e6 (definitely more than the others) but doesn't fly as high or feel/sound as soft as e6. Too expensive for what it is IMO.

Of those four, the e6 is the only one I would use on a regular basis although the NXT Tour will do in a pinch. Would use almost any other ball in the world before a rock like Velocity or e7. Except for cost, the 2013 Pro V1 is a far better ball than any of those. I hit the Pro V1 about the same distance off the tee and the same or maybe a yard or two longer than e6 on iron shots. Plus it will sit right where it lands on a firm green with anything from a 7-iron on down, any of those others will run forward a little bit before stopping.

My driver clubhead speed measures 86-91mph and my 150-yard club is between a 6-iron (summer) and 5-iron (winter). Pro V1 does not require any more clubhead speed than any other ball. I would say something like e7 or Velocity definitely is shorter for a player like me than other ball if you're talking carry distance. All of the extra "distance" on those rock-hard balls comes from extra rollout, which is pretty much useless distance IMO.

What do you like about the E6? What would you change about it?

I only ask because the other 3 balls you are asking about are very different from the E6 and are similar in overall compression/hardness to the ProV1 or B330S that you mentioned that you do not feel you have the swing for (granted the ProV1 and B330S have much softer urethane covers compared to the rest of the harder, surlyn covered balls mentioned).

If your top goal is lower spin off the tee, you will likely want a surlyn covered ball but if you like the E6 there are better balls to check out then those listed above.

I can't stand the e6. It feels too soft and spongy to me. The e7 is the better ball for me. Better feel and better distance with the same spin around the green for me. It's my non-urethane choice because of it's flight, feel, and distance. Some players find the e7 to be a "distance rock", and I totally understand that.

The NXT tour is supposed to be a poor man's urethane ball, but I personally don't like them. If I'm going to pay $35 for a dozen of NXT, I'm just going to cough up another $10 for a tour ball or save $10 on a 3-piece non-urethane. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for this reason. Not enough of a performance boost over the $25 Bridgestone and not cheap enough over the $45 urethane. A true "no man's land" in the market.

The Velocity is the worst of these 4. Some might like it, but I just couldn't vibe with it.

I'm starting to believe compression ratings are total rubbish. I have very similar distances as Fourmyle above ( driver 215 or so and 7i is my 145 club). I recently tried the new 2013 prov1 and 1x. First time ever playing a Urethane ball for more than a hole or two. Also tried the z star SL. I hit them no further of less than an e6, hex hot, nxt tour s, etc. I am not seeing any excessive side spin out of them either with driver. I will say though that my driver is pretty locked in this season. In 6 rds I am hitting 80% fairways and have yet to lose a ball o/b.

Off the irons I am seeing the same distance. The only difference I am seeing is around the green. All the surlyn balls rollout more than the urethanes do. So it's a matter of preference for me. Slow damp day give me a 2 pc. Harder hotter day give me the urethane.

I've played with all except the e6. This is just my opinion.

E7- hard ball on all clubs. I had issues holding greens unless it was a wedge. No bite whatsoever greenside.

Velocity- same as E7 except it felt soft on all clubs. I had issues putting. Almost as if it comes off the putter face a little too hot.

Nxt - Medium firm on all clubs, it can hold greens fairly well, and has some bite greenside. This is my ball of choice because for some reason, I putt better with this ball. It's all mental I know, but the way it feels and sounds off the putter face is perfect to me.

[/quote]Historically played ProV ans specifically ProVx but my SS is declining and game went a little south after surgery and got tied of losing ProVs. Actually went to NXT Tour,S,ix,from LGB.com mint rating. Frankly thinking of just buying a box locally of E6s and give them a try especially because we are just starting season and it's still lousy weather. The E6 has the NXT Tour beat in price and if it's as good or better so be it. Also I have gone YELLOW. Not only easy to see but after a few beers can find my ball quick,LOL.

To me the e6 is a slightly better performing ball than NXT Tour but very similar overall. At 6-8 bucks cheaper per dozen it's clearly a better proposition price-wise. And I'm saying this as someone who played NXT Tour more or less exclusively for about a year not that long ago. I think you're on the right track with a yellow e6...or try the orange one if you want something that really stands out!
