Headed to St. Lucie Tomorrow (4-18)

Staying with friends who live in the same subdivision where Club Med is located. Either Club Med's golf course really sucks or it's a real bargin at $35. The Ms. and I can play that course several times for the cost of 1 round at PGA Village.

 

Our club pro said St. Lucie's PGA Village courses were in horrible shape a few months ago when he was there and there was a discussion at the PGA about an infusion of money to get this location and other PGA operated courses back where they need to be.

 

Anyone played the St. Lucie PGA Village courses recently? We're they in good shape and worth the money?

Played all 3 PGA Village courses end of March. Wannamaker and Ryder were in great condition, Dye course was unplayable. An embarrassment to the PGA. Rumor around the facility was they were closing it until condition improved.

Thanks Openwater22. I looked on the PGA Village website last night just to see what they're charging for green fees. In red letters they in so many words, said the Dye course is unplayable so they'll only charge $49 while bringing the course up to standards. The other courses aren't bad at $79. The Ms. and I are going out to the academy today and practice instead. Unlimited use of the facility for a reasonable price. Told her we could hit 1,000 balls, short game, bunkers...do it all. I was teasing but her response...to put it nicely, was she wasn't going to hit 1,000 balls nor was she going to sit around while I did.

We did play ClubMed Sandpiper for $15/each through GolfNow. Easy and good for a beginner so both of us had fun. Besides it's in the same subdivision we're staying with friends and 5 minutes away. NO rain down here apparently. Fairways\greens hard as a rock. Even high approach shots didn't leave a pitch mark. 260-270 yard drives with roll vs 225-230 at our club in Wilmington DE.

I was there April 10-15. Dye was a great layout but conditions were 5/10

Do not play Eagle Marsh !

Ryder was a typical Florida course. 7/10. Some tough par 3's

My plan was to play sandpiper with her and go play the pga dye alone

I dont want to waste my time on so-so golf courses so are they better options really close to club med ? Public or accessible private ?

If you can get on, the Santa Lucia River Club (built under the name "Ballantrae") was a good layout, but it's been years since I have played it.

 

Right there across the street from Club Med.

Also, might try the Turf Club at St James. A little drive from Club Med, but it is owned by a company who grows turf, and conditions are said to be excellent, with good greens.

The courses at PGA Village are terrific; fun to play, nice people and in great shape. IMO the Dye is the best of the lot.

The Turf Club at St. James is not in good shape. Santa Lucia River Club is ok if you can get on. Eagle Marsh GC is difficult, but conditioning is erratic.

 

Lost Lake GC in Stuart is a hidden gem, both layout-wise and conditioning.

What do you know about the Florida Club? I played it many years ago when it was first opened, but don't know if it is still a worthwhile trip?

It was closed this Summer - maybe for new greens. It should be ready to reopen for the Winter season.

 

It is a quirky course and can be fun once to play once in a while.

Telephone message says open again Fall 2017. You'd think some type of update on phone message or website.
