Juniors using trolleys...

Recommended Posts

Something that annoys me... Juniors who use trolleys. At my home course, juniors were never allowed to use trolleys unless they had a medical certificate saying they couldn't carry... But recently, they've changed the rules. All the original juniors still carry their clubs, including myself, but loads of new juniors to the club have started using trolleys. I find this so annoying and stupid... They're juniors, and it's not as if they physically can't carry their clubs... I find it annoying when I see a fourball of juniors coming up a fairway, all using trolleys. Especially when you see them dragging them all the way across the greens because they don't know it damages them.

Most juniors I play with carry their clubs, but I don't know what the norm is in other countries and courses. When I was in the states last time, I asked to carry my clubs, instead of using a buggy, and the starter laughed at me... Also, I turned up on the tee in the Scottish Boys Under 14s, and one of my playing partners turned up USING AN ELECTRIC TROLLEY!!!!!!!!!! You don't even need to push or pull the thing, and he was 14, so it wasn't as if he'd struggle to carry his clubs...

Is it the same in other countries or is it the norm to use trolleys or ride?

Has anyone actualy realised that American's carry and drive a cart more than any other country in the world?

In Australia, EVERYONE pulls their buggies, across greens because we are allowed to and it causes no damage.

You must have strange greens... That's like saying that driving a car across a green wouldn't damage it...

ahha crazy brits and there trolleys! trolley= pull cart!! If you have a tour bag and u use that then u better have a caddy or spend the 150 bucks and get a nice walking bag. I have never seen somebody hurt there back from a golf bag. If you have that sucks and u need to A- look at the weather before u go out so u don't pack 100 pounds worth of cold/rain gear. B- don't bring 50 golfballs with you, remember you always find balls on the course. 12 is plunty. C- need to work out better! Just trying to help. Hell i think i even have an extra bag or 2. I am so surpised that average people(not tour pros) buy the big bags- I love it on tour when I see guys using a walking bag that to me looks really cool or the muzino world bag- that thing is amazing! I want one

Well actually it is funny you bring this up. I find it funny when golf courses in America say stay off the fairways and actually you do more damage to the rough when you drive on it.

this is true, but when the course gets really wet its better to have them in the rough becuase a torn up rough is easier and cheaper to replace than a torn up fairway.

Also on the note of going on greens, one of our members yelled at my golf coach who is also a member for taking his "trolley" or push cart on the tee box. I though that was stupid, whats the difference between fairwayh and tee box. might as well have said keep it on the cart path?

For the record, push/pull carts won't do anymore damage to a green than any of us do walking on the green hitting our putts. Its just that its really not a polite thing to do, and it looks weird.

I personally own a push cart. I own one for a couple of reasons. One, I got it when I was a few years younger, and carrying a bag for 18 holes was tough to do. Second, my home course is very hilly, so the occasional use the push cart is a break from walking the course with my bag on my back, making like a mountain goat up the terrain.

A few years back, people were complaining about how heavy backpacks get with all the homework and the long term effects it can have on the future health of a kid's back. In my mind, a golf bag is the same way. So, I also own one to give my back a break every couple of days, for in the summer I play everyday, sometimes 27 or more holes. However, I do not use one when I practice on a course for an upcoming event, or when I'm playing in an event.

Hey, it could be worse, I could use a golf car all the time!

I still voted carry bag, since I carry about 80% of the time

I separated both my shoulders a few times and now my left collar bone sticks up more than it's suppose to. I find a carry bag un comfortable. I don't own a pull cart but I usually use one when I play at my home course. When I play a tournament I always suck it up and carry. Same when I go away to play a course.

I'm buying a big staff bag this but just for when I play my home course. I'll throw the clubs in my carry when I go away.

We have to get you a true walking bag and get it set up rite. A golf bag should not feel uncomfortable unless u have got one nasty sunburn :) from to much of that and not enough practice! heh. What day do u have now?

I am amazed that juniors now have staff bags with Electric pull carts (trolleys).

When I was a junior I carried and played 36 holes around a 7,000 yard plus course and then carried my clubs on the bus home.

What do they put in the staff bags? Play Stations? Alcopops? In my carry bag I have six balls, my waterproofs and some jam sandwiches. Job done!

I don't use a pull cart(trolley) because I find it annoying. I do own a couple but one if for my dad and the other was just given to us, they pretty much sit in the loft in the garage all summer. Unless it gets 90 plus then I will probably take it out.

But I don't see what the big deal is with junior using a pull cart. I mean as long as they don't take it all over the greens and stuff even if it doesn't hurt them. If they like to use it because they enjoy walking more or if they have an injury or if they don't like carrying there bag it doesn't make them lazy. I mean there still walking the course. There still pulling, it's not as much work as carrying which I do 99.5% of the time, but there still out there walking instead of riding in a cart. So I really don't see why your concerned with other juniors using a pull cart on the course. I mean so what its just another option to get around the course.

Dont know why all the fuzz for using a trolley. In winter there are no trolleys allowed on the course, so i dont use them. But in summer, I dont want to ruin my back just to be the tuff guy who doesnt uses a trolley.

You think you are not not "cool" if you use one. Sorry but the ones who use a trolley are or the smart guys, who dont want to ruin their backs , or the laizy guys. :superman: :)

I have a staff bag - and if I'm practising or playing 9 holes I'll carry it around, but if I'm playing 18 I'll use my buggy. My home course is very hilly and in Brisbane it can get quite hot, so why bother with all the extra sweat (I already have to drink 3-5 bottles of water a round in summer) and back problems in the years to come.

:) to u guys in america who can't play in winter. In our winter, the lowest temp was 18 or 19*C = something like 50*F or something like that

And juniors useing trolleys is a joke, id never use one even when im 80!

Haha very true. It seems to me that outside the USA using a trolley is like a cart to us americans. When I was in Ireland and Scotland they were kind of like forcing a pull cart on us. They were insisting that I would never make it 18 holes walking with my ping bag. I luaghed- Unless you have a medical note saying you can not carry a bag due to a bad back. I don't mean muscle soreness. You should carry your bag. At most a golf bag should way what 30 pounds? My bag i can carry all day long and not get sore. Maybe to the guys that say there back hurts when they car need to get a bag that is made for what you do. You play golf, how bout you by a bag to golf not something i can load 3 weeks worth of clothes in and travel with it. :drinks: :D . In my walking bag well those are the only bags i own. I can put full rain suit a extra towel and a umbrella. That is the heaviest my bag has ever been. The youth of this world is going soft. I am adult by the standards but a youth still too, I am 20. There is no reason for a tour staff bag. They are 250-300 dollars of a waste. I don't even believe that a tour pro really needs that kind of a bag. They carry like 10 golf balls max.

Ain't that the truth :drinks: All that should be in your bag is 14 clubs, 8 balls max for practice reasons, a couple bottles of water, rain gear etc. if needed, a towel or 2 and maybe extras like a yardage book that don't way nothing. Excluding medical exemptions, if you can't carry that for 18 holes, you need to improve your fitness
