I booked my tee time for the plantation course at kapalua today! For those of you that have played there before, do you have any advice for my round there? Also, are there any other cheaper courses on Maui that you would recommend for another round?

Straight up just enjoy it! I have played it 3 times now and love it. I have played pretty terrible everytime but the breathtaking beauty makes the round one of the most enjoyable.

Really nothing else in Maui compares. Last time I was there I played wialea gold and thought it was OK. Ended up just spending the extra money to play Kapalua twice. So worth it.

Play in the skins game at noon at the bay course if they still have it. Will save you a bunch on greens fees, also a fun group of guys that play in it almost everyday. I played in it for a week straight when I was there lol.

When are you playing? I'll be there June 3rd -6th. Playing Plantation Monday 3 June. Wailea Thursday the 6th. Might be looking for another game.

depending on the time of day, the wind really whips up on the Plantation course. The elevation is higher than most other courses on the Island. Not unusual to see a 3+ club wind so swing easy and try to keep the ball down. Enjoy you'll love some on the views..especially 17th and 18th tees.

For cheaper I'd recommend Kahili. You can find really good online rates. I played it along with Kapalua and Wailea and thought it was the best value per dollar of the trio.

Was just there in April and they moved the skins game to the Bay Course and other courses such as Kaanapali. I've played Plantation many times and I decided to skip it this past trip to go to Lanai. Now Kapalua is one of my favorite spots in all the world, from the view and first class service I really think Lanai is my favorite spot in all of Hawaii. The Experience at Koele is now in my top 5 courses I've played and if you check my top 10 list on the forum you will see the numerous courses with prestige I've played. Kapalua is a wide open course with huge greens and most golfers worst enemy Bermuda grass. The views are what make Planatation what it is in my opinion. Koele is bentgrass, a lush setting , and waterfall drops all thru the course. You also have The Challenge at Manele which is a Nicklaus design that weaves it's way on ocean cliffs and has awesome views from all over the course. Although I enjoyed Koele more I am definitely goin back to Lanai next time I go to Maui. You can play both courses in a day with ferry and shuttle for 325$. I have not felt at peace on a golf course like at Koele as the experience was really one of the best I've had. The Four Seasons resorts on Lanai are also top notch and after your round waitin for the ferry enjoy a drink and some killer sushi overlooking Menele Bay. For me Kapalua was always my favorite place but after going to Lanai that is my new getaway and seceret spot that I will always go to when In Maui. Do yourself a favor and go to Lanai you will not regret it it's one of the most beautiful places in the world not many people kno about...enjoy your trip.

It's only on Wednesdays I believe and you have to call in the AM so they can organize for the amount of participants. There is also a good money game at Wailea.

Plantation has the strongest gravitational pull on their greens that I've ever seen. Remember that no matter what you see on the greens, you're on the side of a mountain and everything is going to break towards Lanai.

There is a more precise reference point that somebody can give you...it's been a few years so I don't remember the point in the distance to use but your putts will move that way regardless of the green slope.
