What is the BEST driving ranges in the country?

I will answer with three thru my travels.

 

1)Shady CanyonGolf Club Irvine, Ca

2)The Olympic club

3)Big Horn Golf Club Palm Desert, Ca

 

 

They are all big with good targets and have PERFECT Titleist Range Balls.

i enjoy waltz golf farm in Limerick, Pennsylvania. Cheap grass area and sometimes find Pro V1's in the buckets

Practice area at Bandon Dunes. It has everything you could possibly need with the exception of more sunny days.

Are you a member out there? I've been there several times. I used to take lessons from Andrew Rice there. Stopped going to him, but the range is awesome.

no not a member but i have a friend who is and we try to get out there every couple weeks i go to school in hilton head so its a nice place to practice

How close is this to Linfield National? I have a few buddies that are members there and normally get a game a few times a month up there whe I am in the area on client business.

Right now I am quite fond of the Eric McCluen Golf Center in West Chester, PA. The stalls are covered and tarped to keep the wind out and heated to keep you warm. Best part is that they never really close and you can hit balls outdorrs in the snow. Makes playing year round in the Philly area possible.

Firestone Country Club in Akron. If you don't believe me, check out the PGA WITB pics from 2006 Bridgestone Inv. The target greens on this range react exactly like the course. The short game practice area is great also.

Kinloch in Richmond, VA. Indoor hitting bays with cameras at every angle, turf that litterally looks and feels like a green, very nice chairs at every station. All in all it is ridiculous.

 

My home course in Charlotte, NC has the best range I've hit on in NC. It's over 360 yards long, tees at both ends and a very nice pitching/chipping green. From the main part of the range it is slightly uphill, so you can actually see where your ball is going to go. There also are about 8 target greens with laser yardages. We are getting ready to redo our course and they are putting in a very extensive short game area, which I believe will have some distance to it as to practice shots from about 65 yds and it. They also are putting in a very high-tech teaching facility with the indoor bays and cameras.

for practicing fairway bunker shots. can't think of many places that allow you to practice that on a range.

The practice area at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY is amazing. Giant range with lasered flags on elevated "greens". Callaway and Titleist "Pearls". Short game areas. Water Hazards. Putting Greens. A Dome for indoor work in inclement weather (With Simulation Machines). All maintained at the same level as the course which have been rated as some of the best conditions in the Nation. I almost feel bad taking divots there. maybe not..

If your ever in Northern Virginia, try Dulles Golf in Sterling. Great place, great staff and really knowledgeable pros. This is where I learned to play the game. It's where my 5 year olds swing coach teaches. Voted one of the best in the U.S. by Golf Range Magazine.

 

I notice that they keep changing the range balls about 3 to 4 months. More frequently than most ranges.

There is an incredible golf course in Myrtle Beach which is one of my favorite all time places to play. Its True Blue designed by the late Mike Strantz. (www.fishclub.com). I love the practice area, its very unique in design , just like the course. Here is a pic standing on the practice tee. I love this range, its very tranquill.

I like the range at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. It's very wide with lots of target.

It is about no more than 5 minutes from Linfield National. I find Linfield to be a decent layout but terrible matinance. Have you tried Ravens Claw Golf Club? im a member there and it has pristine conditions

Probably not what you were looking for, but I have never seen anything like the practice facility at Augusta National, although I guess they ran out of property because it seems like no matter how high they build the net at the end of the driving range, Daly still hits them into the street!

 

Seriously though, in addition to the driving range, they have a short game practice area that's the size of many driving ranges, with several bunkers and target greens. Then there are a couple of practice greens (which I suspect are nicer than any greens most of us will ever play on).

 

 

The TPC in Virginia Beach has a pretty awesome practice area too, and, unlike that one in GA, you can actually use it.

World Woods near Tampa is the best I've seen. It's literally a complete circle. They also have the largest putting green I've ever seen. It's absurd how big it is.

My Dad is a member there and I play there several times a year. It is by far the best practice facility I have ever seen. You can spend a full day working on every part of your game. My favorite place is the video bay where you can tape your swing and review it.

Where in Charlotte is your home course? Would love to check it out as I go down there quite often, I usually go to leatherman driving range just off of trivola ave.
