Callaway X22 Reshaft

I am hoping to reshaft my Callway X22 irons either this fall or when I get a free week away from golf. I do have some mechanical skills so I was hoping to do this myself. I was wondering if anyone has reshafting the X22 irons that could give a few pointers.

 

I've done some research in the past and identified that they are not truly bore-thru. It appears that it is just a plastic plug on the bottom for aesthetics. Where can I get these plastic plugs in case they blister when I remove the current shafts?

 

Can someone confirm that I don't have to crimp the end of the shafts? I believe this was a callaway-ism that was potentially before the X22s.

 

Lastly, what is the shaft tip size for the standard (non-Tour) X22s? It is not listed on Callwaygolf and a search wasn't helpful as half the post said .355 taper and the other half said .370 parrallel. golf-topia has the standard with .370 and the Tour with .355.

 

I would likely pull the shaft from my 4-iron before ordering.

Says x22 w/ uniflex steel is a .370 shaft. I am not familiar with the bore and plug thing. Best of luck.

Thanks. I am seeing the majority say the x22 is a .370 shaft.

Anyone out there with experience with reshafting the x22's? Thanks.

Most people will use a .370 shaft and put slits in the end of the shaft with a Dremel. As for the plugs I have never seen replacements.

No need to put slits in the end of the shaft, if it was a borethru, that would be a necessity, but these are not. Just a standard install.

Easiest way to take the heads off if they are a steel shaft right now is to clamp the club in a vise and heat up the hosel and simply twist it loose to break the epoxy bond and pull the head right off with your hand. First of all be sure to wear a heavy duty glove on the hand you will be pulling with, hot steel is not too nice on the fingers... If you are using a propane torch then you will only need about 10 seconds of heat on the hosel to break the bond. Just wave the flame back and forth from the top of the hosel to down about 1". Make sure to get all the sides, not just one. After about 10 seconds of heating, put the torch down and give the head a twist. If you have heated it enough then the epoxy should break away pretty easily, just keep pulling and twisting and it should pop right off. Doing it this way should protect those little plastic nubs for the "bore-through" look so you won't need to replace them. If it doesn't give just heat it another five seconds, always keeping the flame moving, until you can pull it off.

.370" shaft is correct.
