Nervous and excited. Hosting a golf outing to benifit JDRF this sunday.

My wife, kids and I have put together a golf outing to benifit juvenile diabetes research. My 8 year old son is type one diabetic and he absolutely loves golf. He has alot of talent. My whole family golfs, and wanted to do something to educate people about T1D as well as raise some money for the most influential foundation that funds research.

 

Less than a week away now. The suspense is killing me. The event is already a success thanks to our local sponsors. We have already met our original fundraising goal.

 

A little about our event...

 

We wanted to keep the focus on fun rather than bring the ringers out of the woodwork to come clean the course. We wanted golfers of all skill levels to have fun.

 

So we are just doing nine holes. Everyone plays thier own ball. Flighted placing based on the amount of golfers in each class. We advertised the outing as golf and a skills challenge. We have a few golf related games like putting challenge, and long drive. I think what will be the biggest hit for skills based games is a giant pitching wedge skeeball range. $3 gets you six balls, we will keep a record board. Highest total for the day wins a year and a half of unlimited free balls at a local driving range.

 

It was a tremendous amount of work. But very rewarding. now we are just keeping our fingers crossed that we get the turnout we are hoping for.

Whatever you do, don't have eightsomes! Played in a JDRF outing several years ago and it was a total money grab. They had 8 in a group. The longest round in my life...

Absolutely not. 4 people in a group. All extras are off the course. We only have the course for 4 hours. We gotta keep people moving.

I have a team that plays every year in an Autism Tournament and the coolest thing about is the trophies (4 for the 1st place team) are made from legos by the children. Some very cool trophies. This tournament has 4 sessions (Morning/Afternoon on Friday & Saturday). 16 trophies total. Our team plays one session on Friday and one session on Saturday. We finally got a trophy last year with a 22 under (it took us 4 years). The trophies made by the kids are the coolest thing ever. I can post a pic of it if you want to use it as an idea for next year.
