Topic Change: Adams CB3 Review from a mid 80's guy!

I need some help guys, im really tossed up. Been wanting a new set of irons for a long time. The last set I had custom fit for me was the set im still playing to this day (2006 cobra 3400ih). I like my irons but they are 8 years old and im just ready to upgrade. I am a mid 80s guy. I was fitted for a XHP with a project x 5.5 flighted shaft and hit them off the grass and loved the way the 6 iron his (demo day). BUT i really like the looks of the adams CB3 iron. They come with the KBS TOUR 90 in them which in regular stiffness is quite similar to the specs of the PX5.5 flighted...Although I was only able to hit the CB3 irons off of the turf at golf smith and i liked them too but i know the grass is a whole different world. I want something decently forgiving but I dont need a HUGE cavity back like I have... I need your opinions!

Help me out

CB3 no contest. I haven't heard any praise for the xhot iron series outside of the "good enough" and were just made for a new line no real advancements outside of being longer which I don't prefer

You made the right decision.
This x's 1000. No contest. I agree with JWells, also. I personally don't know of anyone who bought XHP's that actually tried anything else. "Just ok" seems to be about as good as you'll hear about them from people who demo'd them along side other irons. You can read forum after forum about the CB3 and find hardly any disparaging remarks about them, but mostly rave reviews. I've hit both and I agree. You made the correct decision, IMO.

I love Adam's CB line, I have the CB1s in my bag and the only thing that gave them a run were the MB2s, but I'm not quite as consistent as I would like to be to bag the blades. Great quality, great feel...good choice and enjoy em.

I have the cb3s and really do like them. I am surprised by your comment that the kbs tour 90s regular flex would be similar to the project x 5.5s. Find that hard to believe.

Good luck with your new irons!
The PX 5.5 are stiffer than the KBS Tour 90 STIFF, let alone the Regular.
The stock KBS Tour 90 stiff should be closer to the KBS Tour in Regular fles, with a higher flight, acording to KBS when I was trying to find out more about the Tour 90.
CB3's are on my radar as well. Played the CB2's a few years ago and shouldn't have sold them.
Keep checking for deals on CB3s.

My exact same scenario. I still have the MB2's for when I want the extra challenge but love the CB1's.

Surely you jest. The X Hot Pro's have some of the heaviest praise of any recent iron release on WRX. I consider them one of the most loved irons on here. There are plenty of RAVE reviews.

I would love to try the CB3 tho. Certainly not a bad chocie vs anything if it suits.

thanks for all the replies guys! I am not sure about the shaft either....everyone that has fit me has fit me for a stiff shaft in my irons but then when i hit the regular flex i hit them so much better... callaway rep says I have a really smooth and slow transition in the top of my swing so my swing does not load the stiff shaft correctly but my club head speed is equivalent to calling for a stiff shaft... this is why i went with the regulars... I really hit the PX 5.5 flighted well and was really impressed with them.. If i dont like the KBS tour 90s in regular ill probably end up throwing the PX's in there... If you guys above that do have the irons and play with them regularly don't mind me asking, what are your avg scores? The only thing I am worried about is that they will be too hard for me to hit... I bought a set of Mizuno MP53's with PX 5.5's and couldnt hit them very well... like i said i am only a mid 80s guy...

The CB3's are really a sneaky-easy club to hit. You'll find they're pretty forgiving on the mishits, but still workable if you want to do so. I hit both the regular Xhots and the Pros, and found that I was seeing almost identical distances and dispersion with the CB3's and the Pros, and I got the cb3's on closeout for $300 under what the cost of the Xhot pros would have cost me.

For what its worth, I've played with mine for probably 20 rounds at this point, and I've never second guessed my self. The Cb3's are maybe the most underrated club on the market. They're freaking beautiful, soft as butter when you square the ball up, and just as long as the other trendy stuff.

Oh, scores...I'm a high 70's-low 80's guy, cap is right about 9 even. My wife, who's a 22 cap has hit them at the range, and she's able to hit them just fine, they're not a club that requires you to be a perfect ball striker to play with and enjoy.

I'm a 15 hcpper and have no problems hitting the cb3s. Sometimes I do wonder what a different shaft would be like. I have a quick swing (even though my ss is right around 80 with a 6 iron) and maybe would have been better off getting the tour 90 shaft in stiff flex. I would love to try the kbs tour in regular flex (an heavier shaft) but it's hard to find these irons in anything other than the tour 90s.

These clubs are forgiving and feel sooo good when you flush them.

recieved the irons today from FedEx.... Wow they are alot smaller than i remember (maybe because i was hitting the adjustable +1-2 degree demo iron)... really a great looking iron for sure, shaft feels nice and light but not too light which is what i liked about the PX 5.5 flighted...Really want to get out and hit these things but I work crazy freakin hours...Will report asap!

Ok, holy crap! This is no honeymoon stage, these irons are great! I snuck behind work because I was so antsy last night and hit the 4 iron ( i figured if i could hit that first shot with no warm up i could hit the rest) Unfortunately wasted a good ball but it was well worth it... After a couple practice swings I hit the 4 iron and crushed it! very straight and smooth as butter... This morning before work i woke up and went to the range, put about 100 balls through these irons, all I can say is that i am VERY impressed... IMO they are easier to hit than the Cally XHP and I actually like the feel of the KBS shaft better than the PX 5.5.... I can honestly say they are as easy if not easier to hit than my Cobra 3400 Ih iron (huge cavity back irons) with the exception of the 4 iron, my cobra 4 iron is very easy to hit as where the new 4 iron is a little more challenging but nothing I cant handle...

Thought this was funny... this was my first hit with the set with no warmup... just wish they could all be in that spot!

Thank you! I have to agree they are a very sharp looking iron... I am unsure of the accurate distances because of the stupid range balls... yellow flag was measuring 179 and it took my 4 iron to get there ( i usually hit my 4 iron 190-200)... blue flag was measuring 149 and it took my 7 iron to get to it...( i usually hit my 7 iron 160-165) . That perfect center shot I hit was my 6 iron and it went about 165... Junk range balls are obivously the culprit.. I will let you know when get out to play on the course...

haha, I will try! I was on the 100yd green with the gap wedge 6/10 shots... heavy crosswind today at the range didnt help...still unsure if im going to bag the gap wedge or not...have my wedge set pretty dialed in right now...

I'm currently playing the X Hot Pros - like 'em, don't love 'em. I hit the CB3s indoors today, absolutely love the looks and feel, and the distance (according to the simulator) was slightly longer than my X Hot pros.

My only hesitation is the KBS Tour 90 shaft. I usually don't get along well with light shafts.

Has anybody played the CB3s with something heavier - DGS300s? KBS tours? PX 5.5 or 6.0s?

Thanks

I've got c-tapers (stiff, ss 1x) in mine and they're great. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed hitting a 4 iron more than with the CB3s.
