Golf Trip Suggestions for April 2014

Just lined up my vacation dates with my dad for coming April. Wanted to get some suggestions for a golf trip in the lower 48 states. Has to be a warm climate at that time of year without dormant brown grass. Some ideas i had were arizona, new mexico, san diego, streamsong & tampa area, etc. Places like pebble beach/carmel area are out because green fees of $225 or over are not in play. if u have thoughts and knowledge of areas that are more reasonably priced, or package deals in april, or local conditioning of courses at that time of season give me the lowdown. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I went to Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama two years ago in May. My group is also looking into Mesquite, NV since it has great courses and looked reasonably affordable.

Naples, Florida.

Not cheap but almost guaranteed good weather. Plenty of great golf.

Forgot to put it down but naples/estero is our normal golf trip every year in april.

Scottsdale. Rates will just start to come down from their season highs, as Spring Training is over.

Myrtle Beach is great, so is Scottsdale.

Palm Desert is great that time of year. There are great tracks everywhere. If you look into it ahead you can find some decent deals on greens fees as well.

My last two golf trips have been to Myrtle Beach. Two years ago to Barefoot and this year to Caledonia/True Blue/TPC/Pawley's Plantation. Both great trips. Get a quote at Barefoot (http://www.barefootgolf.com/) and get a quote from the south side including Caledonia and True Blue (www.golfdesk.com).

I lived in Scottsdale for 5 years. As much as I love the golf, I don't miss the traffic and the crowded feeling of the area.

St George or Sedona are two others to consider, don't fool with Streamsong, despite all the hype it's only good for a 36 hole day or two 18 hole days, I wouldn't suggest spending more time there.

If you guys have Scottsdale, mesquite/st. george, sedona, palm desert suggestions please share any info...who you booked through, who had best airfare, which courses are Must plays/versus overhyped/overpriced. Also stuff like staff that are friendly and /or jag-offs. Any of the Myrtle beach guys is south carolina in good condition that time of year(mid april), i play MB every september with a group. Don't want to play on brown or dormant grass

Streamsong is a possibility to play and stay there 2 days, then head to my uncles house in Venice, Florida. What are the mesquite/st. george & sedona courses you liked? My sisiter is in henderson nevada so mesquite is also a frontrunner

Give me the low down on that....best courses, ball park greens fees, service you booked through /hotels...any and all observations are appreciated.

Shep, Give me your scottsdale recommendations. Is Myrtle Beach in normal condition at that time of year? I love MB, play there every year but always a september trip. Is the grass brown,/dormant in MB in april? My dad has never been to MB and has heard me rave about it alot, i may be able to use a buddies condo too so its in play if the conditions are good. Don't want to hype it up for him and have the courses brown with dead/dormant grass.

For many years my family vacationed on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina in late April through early May. Beautiful weather, wonderful gol, all around great place. We went right after the PGA Tour event at Harbour Town.

Lots of nice courses on the island, even two others in the Sea Pines area (Ocean and Heron Point) where Harbour Town is for $100 or less depending on discounts and time of play. And if you want to splurge once at Harbour Town itself for $250 or so, you can play it while the grandstands are still up for the extra interest that might provide.

I have been suggesting HH for the past few years to leader of my MB trip, but he's a cheap MF'er. In april Is the grass green( ie-not dormant/brown), and courses in good shape?

The conditions are good enough for the Tour pros right after they finish the Masters. They're certainly good enough for me! The end of Apiil ends their high price season, the beginning of May offers additional discounts on some local courses. I've never been there at any other time of year, but I'd guess it never gets better than April/May. Looks plenty green to me.
