Playing a new course

I was wondering if anyone ever had the problem where they went and played a course for the first time and had someone steal equipment (rangefinder, putter, driver, etc) from their bag.

 

When I am at my local courses - I know where to put my bag where I know there where I know the starter is watching. But recently a friend told me that I should leave my favorite Scotty Cameron at home when I play a few new courses because it could get stolen easily at a course.

 

I hope this sort of thing doesnt happen, but you never know.

i have never had any problems with clubs getting stolen but a few of my headcovers have been stolen.

You never know.

Golfers are pretty territorial. Show up on someone else's turf and you might get your car vandalized or you could even get an a**-kicking. Just be aware. Especially in the retirement communities.

I never leave my bag alone for very long when playing by myself and when playing with friends one of us will stay with the bags and watch over them. Times are changing and Have heard too many stories of equipment being stolen.

It is disappointing to hear these stories, and whenever I find a club on the course - I take it into the clubhouse unless the group in front of me comes back and lets me know exactly what they had left behind.

I went on a golf trip about 12 years ago with 7 friends and had my 7 wood stolen. I figured one of them was pulling a prank but it was really stolen. I couldn't believe it. Thankfully I didn't use it very often and didn't really miss it but I was still pissed off that someone would do that.

This was the only time I or anyone I know has have ever had this sort of problem.

I still leave my clubs unattended at any course I'm at.

I had a complete set stolen at a well known muni in San Antonio several years back. I set my bag down right outside the golf shop after my round and when I came back out, they were gone and no one was in sight…SICK feeling. From that day forward, after my round I go straight to the car and put my clubs away and then go take care of any business I might have in the club house.

I've never had anything stolen here in the UK and have played municipal courses a lot

However I do keep a good eye on my bag unless at my home course just in case!

Sorry to hear about your loss Aces. Did you call the police or have the clubhouse contact anyone in case someone showed up trying to game them.

This past season I had my putter with my loudmouth putter cover yanked right out of my bag. Didn't realize it until I got to the first green, couldn't see straight I was so mad. A gentleman's game, but there sure are some a$$holes out there with no sense of respect for other people's property.

The only course where I have my clubs stolen was my home course, which was also a private course. So I don't think playing at a new club subjects you to any more risk,,since I feel the risk is exactly the same, and care should be taken at all times to protect your bag.

Left my Adizeros in a shoe bag in the locker room couple of weeks ago and someone kindly took them off my hands

I have almost been more concerned when I play the course closest to me, and I go out to practice my short game - then leave my clubs outside the clubhouse when I go inside for a few minutes to look around.

I am going to keep them either in my car or on me as much as I possibly can.

I agree that it is never a good idea to leave equipment unattended...however, my actual experience with clubs has been just the opposite. I am careless beyond belief-- I would lose just about anything if given enough opportunity, and I would guess I've had about a dozen experiences where whatever I've left behind or lost on the course was returned--sometimes with a bit of effort required on the returnees part. Clubs, wallets, you name it...

I've never had a problem, but I'm not careless either. I won't leave them laying about if we go in for a post-round cocktail, never leave my laser laying in the cart. Also, all of my clubs are a few generations old, Rocketbladez irons, G15 driver, Rapture 4 wood, older Cobra hybrids, etc. I do have a Cameron putter, but it has a Grateful Dead headcover, so it doesn't stand out.

My dad had his wallet stolen out of his bag at a local public course. He didn't realize it until after the round and by that time the thief had already racked up charges at a few area liquor stores.

I had a brand new Mizuno 6-iron stolen at a local course. I'm almost positive it was a course employee. I checked back to see if the club was ever turned back in, no one turned it in for the 3-months I checked. I peridically checked eBay too. The week I didn't check it was sold by someone on eBay. I checked this guys history and he had a bunch of loose clubs of varying dexterity, style, brands, flex. I would think it was just a coincidence but the guy was selling them from the town where the club was taken.
