Sadly I have been informed that even unsolicited business that comes my way presents a problem and I have to cease until I can pay the monthly sponsorship fee. So for the time being I am not able to take any inquiries on wedges.

So I started doing a very small volume project for guys at my work and some of the guys in my club so I thought I'd share some pics. I wish I would have taken more pics throughout the process since basically I have before, and almost after and not much in between...regardless some may find it interesting.

So here they are, straight out of the forging die...very rough, a ton of weight to work with and basically a blank canvas to work with.

Did you go out and buy equipment to sand and grind those or are you using an existing shop? Would love to know what equipment that is. Great job on the wedges, really turned out nice.

This was all done in the shop I made in my garage with the exception of the laser etched graphics for the skull and loft numbers which I did at my work. For the grinding I bought a few pedestal/bench grinders (can be had fairly cheap, the expensive part is decent grind wheels) and a buffer or two with blocks of buffing compound. Doing this kind of shaping on the soles like what I did on the 60 isn't ideal to do on a grind wheel, I'm going to be picking up one of those handy belt sander attachments with the rubber contact wheel to speed things up because it was slow going getting this right with a rigid surface. The hardest part was the cleanup on the lower part of the hosel were it blends towards the face because since these were basically right out of the forging dies there was a seem and a lot of tricky things to blend properly and make it look good.

I just sold a 50° to a friend thats going to let me do a high polish and torch finish with some elaborate laser etching on the back so it will show a great contrast between the etched material and the torched look. I'll probably do more of a step by step photo collection on it to show the various levels of completion. I'm definitely no Don White or Joe Kwok but I'm definitely going to make a run at doing these pretty regularly for some side cash to help fund my club ho habit.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Hopefully one day I can do club work full time and make a living at it. There's very few great wedge grinders left in the world today and I hope to join them. Someone has to...why not one of us humble wrxer's?

So I've had a number of inquiries on doing heads or full wedges for wrxer's. Feel free to pm me with any questions. I've already started my next project but I'm still pretty terrible at remembering to take in process photos so stay tuned for my next group of completed photos.

They are 1025C forged raw heads, macgregor VIP tourney blanks. The 60 is the generation after the VIP tourney and is some variety of stainless.

My last project for a guy at work I finished the day before yesterday, just a simple clean 50°.

And, my current project for a member here...a version of the JP 1k Prototype grind that will be a high polish, torch, snow dots, and dancing fish pattern on the back. Still just roughing things out on this one.

You have a talent- that is some very nice work. Just out of curiosity, how much weight was lost in making the K grind and channel cut ?

Less than you'd think, this particular head is still weighing in at 307g. Granted I start from a very overweight head, I can't remember specifically what this weighed to start but I picked the heaviest I had on hand to start on I think it was around 320ish grams. That's quite a bit more than you would want to remove from an existing finished wedge but for what I'm doing it goes just fine.

I'm just curious where you found a place to buy blanks in a reasonable quantity. Lowest minimums I've found are 100-200. I've been able to buy then from a boutique OEM in the past but that's one at a time at a higher cost so I can't experiment with grinds as I get one chance to get it right. I'd love to find blanks I could order in smaller quantities for personal experimentation. I'd really like to find iron blanks too if you know anywhere that I can get smaller quantities.

Before you send them to me make sure they are basically done for cleanup and finish. The laser is permanent but not super deep, you could potentially wipe the laser out with a slip of a grinder.

Will do. I am going to finish all the grinds and get them ready for install before I send them. I will shoot you a PM first to talk about what all we can do.
