So I dented the face of my 3w....

So I have spent all summer recovering from surgery and haven't played since May--my doctor just cleared me to swing again so I went to the range and hit a bucket and everything felt fine, except for the 3w. I just figured it was not swinging for 10 weeks but as I was cleaning my clubs this morning I noticed a dent in the middle of the face of my 3w. Its a Nike VRPro LE 15* that I got right when they came out and it has been great. I'd like to stick with the same shaft and could definitely pull the 8M3 out of this head to put in another. My question is, try and find another VRPro LE or do I look to another option. I don't hit 3w very often but I would like something that is more oriented toward being a fairway finder off the tee with the ability to occasionally use it from the fairway. I don't need a distance 3w--not really an issue for me--but I don't want to be losing distance from what I have now because that would defeat the purpose of carrying a 3w. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm considering an RBZ or RBZ stage 2, 913d low spin, or a covert of some sort but I'm open to suggestions.

If it seems defective I'd talk to Nike and see what they say, could replace it for you.

My 913Fd is the best 3W I've ever owned which includes a great many in the last 5 years as well as some really high end JDM stuff. Great head, feel and sound are top notch. Good off the tee and easy off the deck. Very versatile.

It has been too long and I replaced the shaft myself. Nike doesn't like that for some reason and never warranties anything that you've done work on yourself. Its also 3 years old and I have a high SS so I'm not shocked. This would be the first 3wood I've dented but the 4th club total--other 3 were drivers. I got over 120 rounds from it so I can't say it didn't last very long.

This is what I've heard--however the law school student loan budget is preventing me from pulling the trigger...

Couldn't hurt to call Nike to see if they'll cover the damage. Worst they can say is no.

[/quote]Sounds like most company's. Just like replacing an k&n filter on my Lexus voided the warranty. Nothing new or surprises.

If it works just replace the head. Pretty sure you could get a low ball ebay auction on a reg flex or something and switch shafts out.

Nike accepted my VR Pro LE driver when the face cracked and I had also re shafted it. They said since it was the face that the re shafting couldnt have caused it and they replaced it with a new covert 2.0. Never hurts to file a claim just in case. Limited editions came out in 2012 so they're still under warranty and as long as your re shafting didn't cause the face to crack then they'll replace it. Call Nike and file a claim with Andy. You should get it replaced no problem.

Then they should have replaced my VR Pro LE Driver that I cracked a while back... but they didn't. I will try and contact Andy and see what I can make happen. Do you by chance have his direct email or phone number?

No I do not. He's the only one I talked to I just always asked for him when I called. I pulled my aftermarket shaft, put some crappy spare shaft in it, sent it off and at first they said they couldnt replace it due to re shafting but then I got a phone call later that said they were pushing it through since it was the face and not the hosel. Its worth a shot to haggle with them a little instead of having to buy something else.. they were diligent and worked well with me though. Best of luck!!

That is exactly what I did but my haggling did not work. I actually used to work for Nike Retail and have a couple contacts that I didn't really want to use for something like this but I just decided to email one of them anyway to see what he could do. He is high enough up that hopefully he's a little bothered by this and something gets done. Thanks for the help and I might try the phone call to Andy soon.

Update: Nike has replaced both the driver and 3 wood with new Covert 2.0 Tours... faith restored.

Yah, ANY face cracking with any manufacturer is pretty much gonna get an automatic replacement unless the club is fake. People just don't want to ask.

I would tend to agree with this... if it weren't for the fact that I had to go around customer service that denied my claim even with a bit of pushback and I had to email a contact I had with Nike Golf from the 4 years I was a Nike Retail manager. It was definitely not an "automatic replacement" and the 3 wood wouldn't have been at this point either since it is more than 2 years out from my purchase date.
