Speeder 661 and Speeder 661 Tour Spec

What is the difference, really?

 

Fujjikura says their Tour Spec shafts offer a "stiffer bend profile" and, while this may not correlate, the TS has a higher torque rating. I would expect a "softer" shaft to have more torque.

 

The TS is not an upcharge with Titleist but non-TS is.

 

Having a hard time understanding what makes these different from one another.

I've played both in the same 915 D3 head. I was originally fit for a 661 TS X at Club Champion. I played it for about 2 months and it felt great, but the desperation was erratic to say the least. I contacted a Fujikura dealer and they suggested giving the non-TS a go as the torque was lower and that could help with the desperation. I've never been happier with a shaft. Over the last 3 years I've played a ADDI, ADBB, Veylix Rome, Diamana S-plus and this Speeder 661X blows them away. It's is so smooth and finds fairways. The feel between the 2 is similar, if not the same. I'd be hard pressed to find a difference other than the 661 produced much better results for me.

 

I like the shaft so much that I got a new Ping G driver and purchased the Speeder 661 for it. It cost me a fortune but I love the shaft.

 

I actually have the said non TS Speeder for sale with a 915 tip, PM me if interested. I just switched heads and now have 2 versions of it.

Doesn't it suck paying $150 for a driver fitting and finding out it wasn't the "best" fit for you? I am even worse off.

I figured out on my own the the Speeder TS 757 is a better fit.

I wouldn't get too confused about trying to think of firmer shafts being lower torque and visa versa. Nowadays there is a very real move by shaft manufacturers to have denser materials in more layers in their shafts. This can make the shafts feel very boardy due to the number of layers they are inserting, and in order to compensate for this, some manufacturers are making their shafts with more torque, otherwise it would feel like a rebar, and just feel terrible, so to insert some feel for the golfer they increase the torque slightly, but has no reflection on bend profile stiffness.

 

So in reality, there is no correlation any more with high torque/soft shaft and low torque/stiffer shaft, it just doesn't work like that any more.
