Hot Driver Head for a Senior 67 Y.0.

Hi guys, any suggestions for a driver head (I'll be fitting a senior shaft separately) for a senior aged 67 and a very social golfer that just wants to have fun.

 

One with a hotter face and of course forgiveness.  Will likely be looking for an 11 degree for him.

I Play golf with several over 60 guys and they all say it's the weight that they cant handle so maybe look at some of the Lighter weight offerings like the TSR1 it's a great head and performs very well, but if it were me and I didn't play in any sanctioned events I would look at the Krank drivers, they offer thinner Non Conforming faces that are sure to be Hotter than most anything else.

If it’s a 67 year old social golfer looking for forgiveness, I’d say Ping. Look at one of the max models - 400, 425 or 430 max. I think a good fit (launch and spin) is more important than a “hot face”.

Thanks for chiming in. Yeah, weight is a killer.  I've got him a sub 50 gram shaft and Japanese senior flex meant for 71 to 85 MPH SS (yeah wide range i know). Probably need a lighter head as well and keep the length at 45.5.

 

I was thinking of a non-conforming head like the Ryoma but I;m not sure how he feels about playing a non-conforming head.  Egos dont grow old LOL.

 

Regardless, I'll take a look at the Krank NON-conforming heads.

Thanks. YEah.. launch and spin are important. However, he is very social and consistency is not there to benefit from a fitting.  Just hoping to help him with maybe 10 yards more and more fairways to help him enjoy the game for longer.

XXIO supposedly are made just for the person you are describing.  I have no first hand experience with them, mostly since they are supposedly so light....  And they are a bit pricey.....

Ping G430 HL is a lighter weight version of the G430 Max. XXIO would be another option.

Arthur your welcome, happy to help. I personally have no experience with Krank BUT I will say this. The Drivers I have seen are nice, very nice actually and the guys that do play them seem very satisfied. I have another friend 62-64? I'm not sure but he plays one and when he hits it well say 240-250 I really enjoy the smile on his face and the trash talking he still thinks he can compete, so it's worth just seeing his reaction. LOL 🙂

 

They also do not seem overpriced for what they are, so I'd say they would certainly be worth checking out. I know the TSR1 is another that could be a game changer but probably a little more $

In addition to the thinner face Krank heads, Geek is also still in business and makes a few - LB130, DCT 551 Hot Version, No Brain "Ball Breaker" edition. Makes for a cheap experiment.

Krank Formula Fire X or XX depending on his distance. You can order just heads from them and they have discount codes so this gentleman could have a head and custom shaft for less than an OTR driver. Makes you look good for future business and clients.

It's hard to beat XXIO for slow swing speed players since their shafts are often as light as it gets and headweight is also light and titanium. They are fantastic for their target market.

Callaway smoke max fast is the category you are looking to fit. 

If building and can find them. I have found the Wilson D9 head to out perform most "fancy" OEMs" at slower swing speeds.

I think I'm gonna try the following setup for him first. Its all JDM stuff so some may not have heard of them.

 

- Ryoma D-1 10.5.  The first and original version.  Head weight will be around 195grams

- Crazy Royal Decoration in R3 flex meant for 32 to 38 m/s or 72 to 85 mph swing speeds.  This is a sub 50 gram shaft.

 

Will try a 45.5 inch build for him.  Not sure what the swing weight will be yet but I'm looking at maybe C8 for him.

XXIO prime is stupidly expensive, but really as lightweight as it gets. Those are normally denoted by year of release and graphics. For the non-prime line, they are up to XXIO 13, but anything 11 or 12 is probably going to keep up with the 13. He can probably comfortably play "up" a flex, since these shafts definitely have more waggle to them than their non-XXIO shaft counterparts.

If forgiveness is key, as another poster pointed out, you can't get much better than the G430 Max 10K HL with the ALTA Quick 35 or Taylormade Qi10 Max HL with a Bassara 43. XXIO is great, I have sold a lot of them, but it can be a bit of an issue if the player needs a bit of adjustability since their heads are all bonded in the lightweight models.  I guess if you wanted to blow the bank you could go to something like an Autoflex Joy SF305 in either of the two heads I suggested above, or in a TSR1.

I'm 70 yrs. young and play a Ping G425 LST 10.5° in SR flex.  I was fitted into this head because I hit a very high ball.
